  2. iSearch: Portfolio Tool - Class Structure Goal: To understand the iSearch Portfolio Tool functionality and practice using the tool to create and curate portfolios. Background Hands on session Create a portfolio Curation Creating Vocabularies Uploading curations Bulk curation and curating subsets Office of Portfolio Analysis

  3. iSearch: Portfolio Tool - Background iSearch provides comprehensive, easy-to-use access to a carefully curated, extensively linked data set of global grants, patents, publications, clinical trials, and approved drugs The Portfolio Tool allows search results to be saved with the option to manually curate with user-created fields and vocabularies Office of Portfolio Analysis

  4. iSearch: Portfolio Tool - Features Save search results from any iSearch module as a static dataset or set to update as new records match your search criteria Combine results from multiple searches using your search history Upload custom fields to search results (e.g., IC specific fields or results from previous coding exercises) Search and filter within a portfolio Share portfolios with other iSearch users Manually curate within the tool Add content from other sources e.g. URL Office of Portfolio Analysis

  5. iSearch: Portfolio Tool Coding Start with iSearch search results or uploaded data Create your own user defined fields Check boxes (yes/no) Single or multi-value drop selection from pre-defined list Free text Allow single or multiple curators for a portfolio Curate within the tool (no need for Excel spreadsheets), or upload curations and codes from other sources Use the iSearch facets functionality to drill down into coded results Download results including totals from facet view Query portfolios based on values in user curated fields or uploaded data from outside of iSearch Office of Portfolio Analysis

  7. Hands on Today s example: we will start with a broad free text search and then we will create fields to curate the portfolio.

  8. Creating a portfolio from a search Search criteria: all NIH awarded Type 1 R01 grants from FY2013 to FY2017 Free text search query: opioid abuse in Title, Abstract, SA, RS, PR Facets View Table View

  10. Adding fields Completed field: Once you finished curating the records, you can check this field. By default all records will show No Checkbox field: Is this grant about opioid abuse? By default all records will show No Free text field: allow curators to make comments (e.g. Needs review, this is a gold standard for Opioid abuse basic research, etc.) Controlled Vocabulary: allow curators select options from a dropdown menu (e.g. Basic research, Clinical research, Both, other)
