  1. USA New Project Proposal Cary Bloyd EGEEC-39 Sydney, Australia February 27-28, 2012

  2. Workshop to support the development of national lighting design centers in the APEC region Public private partnership between governments, industries and universities to develop formal lighting design centers have been shown to be an effective model to stimulate, facilitate, and accelerate the development and commercialization of energy-efficient lighting and daylighting technologies in developed APEC economies. Such centers are often located at leading universities and are targeted at the architectural and engineering design community to build the needed capacity for the development and demonstration of next-generation, emerging lighting and daylighting technologies. 2

  3. Workshop to support the development of national lighting design centers in the APEC region: project goal This project will support a workshop to be held along-side an APEC Expert Group on Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EGEEC) meeting that would bring together representatives from successful lighting design centers and leading researchers and government representatives from APEC member economies. The workshop will be targeted at both the presentation of best practices and the definition of the next steps forward in the development of national lighting design centers in multiple APEC member economies. Cost: Total $120,000 APEC Support fund: $80,000 Project start date: 5/1/2012 Project end date: 12/11/2012 3

  4. Workshop to support the development of national lighting design centers in the APEC region: project background The project will build on the success of established building lighting centers such as: The California Lighting Technology Center at the University of California Davis (http://cltc.ucdavis.edu/) The Lighting Research Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (http://www.lrc.rpi.edu/) The centers meet their advanced lighting development goals through technology development, demonstrations, and outreach and education activities in partnership with utilities, lighting manufacturers, end users, builders, designers, researchers, academics, and government agencies 4
