  2. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INFORMAL WRITING AND FORMAL WRITING What is the difference between formal and informal language? Formal and informal language serve different purposes. The tone, the choice of words and the way the words are put together vary between the two styles. Formal language is less personal than informal language. It is used when writing for professional or academic purposes like university assignments or school work. Formal language does not use colloquialisms, contractions or first person pronouns such as I or We . Informal language is more casual and spontaneous. It is used when communicating with friends or family either in writing or in conversation. It is used when writing personal emails, text messages and in some business correspondence. The tone of informal language is more personal than formal language.

  6. MODEL Flat 23 Clarence House Long Lane Caggletonville CA12 4ON Friday 3rdJuly 2020 Dear Mum, How are you? Its been a long time since we spoke. Honestly I have been trying to contact you ever since I boarded the ship but I have just been so busy. Aboard the ship is amazing, it is everything I could have dreamed off. On Friday last week I was poor girl dressed in rags that couldn t afford to buy food. Now I have a wardrobe full of expensive clothes. I also have food a plenty, the food on the ship is out of this world I only wish I could send some back to you. Days just fly by on the ship, I love every minute of it. I m so excited to find out where we are going. It does concern me a bit as Mr. Denham hasn t told me yet but it does add to the excitement. I trust Mr. Denham so I know he will look after me. On the ship I have been very busy practicing my acting. Mr. Denham gets me to practice scenes everyday. He tells me to act terrified as if I have seen a monster. His new film must have a monster in it somewhere. Everyone aboard the ship is very friendly, I have become very close friends with a man name Jack. We talk everyday. I can t wait to see you when I get home, Love from, Ann

  7. TASK Your task is to write as Ann writing home to her parents explaining her time aboard the ship. Remember as she is writing to someone she knows it is an informal letter. You need an address in the top right corner, you can just make it up. I know she is aboard a ship so probably wouldn t have an address but just pretend it was her old address before she left to set sail on the ship.
