  1. WELCOME TO THE YEAR 2 WELCOME MEETING Miss Ganley Mrs Branson To live and learn together through our faith in Christ

  2. IN THIS SESSION Writing-Phonics /Spellings Reading-Phonics / Comprehension/ fluency Maths-calculations / application/ problem solving/mastery SATs-Teacher assessment-Writing, reading, mathematics, grammar

  3. OVERVIEW OF YEAR 2 Dojo s to encourage and reward good behaviour choices. Dojo winner each day-pick a prize Handwriting superstar ticks everyday-to encourage and reward 3 ticks = a handwriting prize Celebration certificates and celebrate achievements outside of school

  4. NEW TO YEAR 2! Phonics Screen Children will complete the Phonics Screen in December 2020, as they missed the screen in year 1. Children have started daily Phonics sessions and this will continue until the screen has been completed.

  5.   6. WRITING Talk for Writing Model text and map (every 3 weeks) Week 1:Learn the text, learn skills Week 2: Change the text, apply the skills Week 3: Invent a new text, embed the skills

WRITING Spellings-Daily spelling sessions (will begin after the Phonics screen, if before a text will be sent home) Weekly spellings (sent home-common exception words) Embedded within all lessons Grammar-Sessions throughout the week Embedded within all lessons Handwriting-Daily sessions/ patterns and joins Embedded within all lessons Edit and proof reading-taught during lessons

  8. Spellings and Maths Missions You may have different spellings to another child in the class. This is to encourage all children to be able to spell all previous common exception words before moving on to new spelling patterns. This is the same with Maths missions.

READING Phonics/Fluency and comprehension Common exception words-set words Year 1 list and Year 2 list (read and spell) Comprehension (questioning)-identify and retrieve, describe, prediction, inference, explain, experience, evaluate Enjoyment and a love for reading! Please read at home and sign the home reader diary

  10. MATHS AUTUMN TERM Autumn term Addition and Subtraction: Recall and use addition and subtraction facts to 20 fluently, and derive and use related facts up to 100. Solve problems with addition and subtraction: using concrete objects and pictorial representations, including those involving numbers, quantities and measures; applying their increasing knowledge of mental and written methods. Measurement-Money: Recognise and use symbols for pounds ( ) and pence (p); combine amounts to make a particular value. Find different combinations of coins that equal the same amounts of money. Solve simple problems in a practical context involving addition and subtraction of money of the same unit, including giving change. Multiplication and division: Calculate mathematical statements for multiplication and division within the multiplication tables and write them using the multiplication (x), division ( ) and equals (=) sign. Solve problems involving multiplication and division, using materials, arrays, repeated addition, mental methods and multiplication and division facts, including problems in contexts.

  12. SATs Tests-Reading, Maths, Grammar Writing assessments (evidence across the year) All to inform Teacher Assessment!

  13. REMINDERS Water bottle every day Book bag every day Homework Spellings, maths missions and reading books. PE Kit Kept in school for the half term (Wednesday) All clothes/bags to be clearly named. Home reader Different days Library books-changed weekly Woodland Adventure-Spring 1

  14. HELPING YOUR CHILD AT HOME Reading with your child as often as you can. Encouraging your child to talk about what they are learning at school. Encourage your child to write-anything! Praise but encourage your child to edit and proof read. Spellings and maths missions. Story maps and texts-read, re-tell, ask questions. Your role is crucial and really appreciated. So keep up the hard work!

  17. DIGITAL LITERACY / E-SAFETY We will continue to take an active approach to educating your children on how to be safe online at school and at home. These two sites we particularly recommend to support your children at home: www.net-aware.org.uk - A guide to the popular websites/apps that children are using. Gives suggested age groups and feedback from parents/children on these apps/ websites so you can choose if appropriate. www.internetmatters.org - Specific help on how to set up internet controls at home. Guidance and articles for parents about keeping children safe online.
