They will learn about the promises made by parents and godparents at Baptism and develop their understanding of the Sacrament of Baptism. We will explore: The layout of a story, how the author creates character with told and inferred information, how paragraphs are used, adverbs and conjunctions, inverted commas; plan, draft, edit and improve a new story with the same central character. Writing: Focus text (Non-fiction): Real Live Dragons! We will explore: structure of a report, coordinating & subordinating conjunctions, present tense, noun phrases, adjectives, prepositional phrases: plan, draft, edit and improve an information/report text Spellings: review Year 2 suffixes (-ed, -ing, -er and est, -ness, -ment, -ful, -less); Year 3/4 word list; the /i/ sound spelled with a y, : the /u/ sound spelled ou Read Comprehension Text The Pebble in My Pocket (Non-Fiction) Summarising Stone Circles (Non-Fiction) Retrieval My Brother is a Superhero (Fiction)- Relationship The Magic Finger (Fiction) Inference Sugar: The Facts (Non-Fiction) Summarising Prawn Pizza (Non-Fiction) Retrieval How to help at home: Read with your child every night for 20-30 minutes and sign their diary. Maths In Maths this half term, we will be working on Place Value. We will be recapping our knowledge of 3 digit numbers and then moving on to look at four digit numbers. We will use number lines to 1,000 and compare and order numbers. We will then move on to Addition and Subtraction. We will recap adding and subtracting 1 s, adding a 2-digit number to a 1-digit number and subtracting a 1-digit number from a 2-digit number. We will the focus on adding and subtracting with 3-digit and 2-digit numbers, crossing 10 s and crossing 100 s. How to help at home: Please encourage your child to practice their timestables to secure their table facts. Create a place value chart and place 1,2,3 and 4-digit numbers in the chart. Curriculum Curriculum Plan Autumn Term One Autumn Term One Plan Science Geography Issue 2 Our Geography topic for this half term is Climate and weather. Our Science topic for this half term is Rocks, Soils and Fossils. In this unit, the children are introduced to different ways of communicating geographical data, particularly through different styles of maps. They will learn to read weather and climate maps, and learn how weather and climate are generalised into world climate zones. The concept of biomes will be explored, each with distinctive climate, soil, flora, fauna and human activity. In this topic children work scientifically on a variety of quick investigations and longer tasks to learn about rocks. This topic covers the properties and uses of rocks, the rock family, soils and finally fossils. How to help at home: Encourage your child to read books about rocks, soils and fossils. Ask your child about the scientific language they have learnt at school. Explore the soil in your garden or local park, see if you can separate the different materials. How to help at home: Use Google Earth and maps at home to plan a local trip. Music PE This half term, our learning in Music is linked to Let Your Spirit Fly by Joanna Mangona. As well as singing and accompanying the song with musical instruments, we will explore pulse, rhythm and pitch. PE is taught by City in The Community. This half term the children will be focussing on the fundamentals of movement with a focus on ball mastery and dribbling. How to help at home: Listen to music with your child. Discuss the instruments that you can hear. Discuss how the music makes you feel. Discuss whether you like the music and give reasons why. PE is taught on Mondays and Dance on Wednesdays. Curriculum Curriculum Plan Autumn Term One Autumn Term One Plan Art French Issue 2 In Art children discover how to make drawings with charcoal which capture a sense of drama or performance. Children are freed from the constraints of creating drawings based on observation instead they use the qualities of the medium to work in dynamic ways. This half term, we will be expanding our French vocabulary. In particular, we will be focusing on greetings, numbers and colours. How to help at home: Can you say hello and goodbye in French at home? How to help at home: Why not visit an art gallery with your child? Discuss the art and encourage them to express and explain their opinions. PHSE/RSE This half term we will begin our first PSHE Module Aiming high . This module encourages children to consider and set goals for the short and long term. They will start by discussing achievements they have accomplished so far and the type of attitude that helps us to succeed. Children will identify ways of applying a growth mindset to new challenges. Computing Composing Emails. Pupils will explore the Different advanced Features of Microsoft Word. They will use these skills To compose an email. How to help at home: encourage you child to consider their personal achievements and to think about how they accomplished these goals.
