  1. Year 6 Summer Term Curriculum Presentation

  2. Within the Summer Term, our Year 6s will begin their transition away from their primary education as they look ahead to beginning their secondary school careers. Our curriculum reflects this by allowing students to Step-Up to Secondary as they look at each subject within their curriculum at more depth as will be typical within their secondary schooling.

  3. Maths As we have covered the curriculum content for Year 6 already, the children will get the chance to apply their mathematical skillset during activity weeks , each themed to reflect the working world . Examples are as follows: Chef for the week What does it take to run your own restaurant? Charity event Can you organise the finances to run your own charity campaign? Dragons Den - Can you create your own product and brand and sell it to a team of project managers?

  4. Writing We will continue to develop our writing skillset through the use of Jane Considine s principles within our lessons. Our writing units will allow students to explore different genres of writing to promote their authorial voice and creative skillset. Some examples of writing genres we aim to cover are: Hotel Review Hotel Promotional Leaflet Balanced Argument Narrative

  5. Reading We will continue to promote the reading of a wide range of texts to expose children to the range of genres they will be experiencing within secondary school. Our book for this term is Louis Sachar s Holes.

  6. Humanities Our topic for summer term is Changing the World . This topic blends both history and geography to allow the children to develop their own outlook on common issues that we face as a society and how they can be agents of change for the future.

  7. RE We will be looking at what different religions believe happen to a person once they have passed away, and how we can use these beliefs to help us find our own inner comfort based on our own opinions and judgements. We will be doing this by using the book Heaven to explore this sensitive topic in an open, but age-appropriate way.

  8. PSHE Our PSHE unit this term, Changing Me including Relationships will explore the different physical and emotional changes that children will experience as they move into adolescence. In line with the statutory guidance for this topic, the children will receive the statutory Relationship and Sex Education lessons that will build upon their learning from Year 5. The only lesson that can be opted-out of is the lesson regarding conception, however this must be in writing.

  9. MFL The children will be exploring a range of vocabulary from varying topics surrounding the French language. This is done through the scheme of work, La Jolie Ronde .

  10. Memorable Experiences School Residential End of SATS trips Leavers Prom Leavers Assembly Leavers Show We will hold another residential meeting on Thursday 18th May 2023. All other dates will be communicated in due course.
