On localizing 2030 Agenda NDP: Medium Term Strategic Framework Thematic Convergence Clarity of means and ends (in line with coherence principle in 2019 VNR - - - o For example, in achieving SDG8, what qualifies as success? Ends should determine what we measure Coherence as an output (end) mistaken
The youth demographic SDG8: Sustained, inclusive growth; Full and productive employment - For SA, 35% of population (StatsSA, UN SWPR 2021) Roughly 22.12 million aged 0-19 - - o So creating employment for youth is doing SDG8 (at level of effective involvement)
Levels of involvement Effective involvement: achieved through SDG-aligned efforts Procedural involvement: having youth at the policy table; consultative efforts Subjects vs Targets of sustainable development As subjects, youth participate in SDG attainment As targets, youth affected by SDG attainment YES initiative
Youth empowerment in PSI work - Development candidate : selecting earlier career researchers to work with experienced academics - Both procedural and effective; subject and target - Whatever language used, urgent need to determine ends of development. i.e. Why
