  1. West Herts Redevelopment Overview February 2023

  2. . An important note about our plans and designs West Herts Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is a Pathfinder trust (in cohort 3) of the national New Hospital Programme (NHP) The NHP s aims are to build 40 new hospitals by 2030 - together with 8 existing schemes, meaning that 48 hospitals across England will be delivered by the end of the decade The pace of redevelopment at our hospitals is set by the pace of the NHP We will continue to seek other sources of funding where we can in order to press on with delivering new and better buildings The designs in this pack may change in line with national guidance and so they should be considered as indicative. 2

  3. 2. Future Plans - Scheme Aims Better Buildings We need new and improved hospital facilities urgently our buildings are too old, too cramped and too unreliable to enable us to deliver the best patient care and patient experience. Our new buildings will enable us to be financially, clinically and environmentally sustainable Better Care We need to deliver 21st century care from a 21st century hospital to meet changing population needs and improve patient outcomes. Building on our track record of innovation, we will continuously strive for care excellence and improvement, rather than just move current services into new buildings. Innovation-driven We need to be an innovation-driven, data driven, digitally enabled hospital that is fully integrated with our local health and care system. New technology will help us deliver the best possible evidence-based care when needed, while enabling people to stay well and supported within their own home. 3
