PRESEASON SCHEDULE The Preseason is the only chance we get to experiment with systems, line ups, set plays, etc. We use the Preseason to perfect our overall game play, chemistry, confidence, and physical capabilities. Do not expect for things to be perfect, as we are still in the experimentation phase. However, we are working on PERFECTING certain concepts, therefore we cannot be satisfied with subpar performances. SUNNY HILLS TOURNAMENT T 12/27 - 12/29

  12. SEASON SCHEDULE Season is what we ve been preparing for. Not everything is about a win, but we are competing to win! That is the objective! We should have perfected our overall game play by now. We need to do well in League to make it and properly prepare for CIF. If we make it, CIF will be in February.

  13. The Structure - Our Vision Varsity teams are the principal athletic teams representing a high school (FIRST TEAMS). Varsity teams are recognized by their high level of performance. Because of this, Athletes on varsity teams are given varsity letters and Varsity Soccer Achievements: Back-to-Back Undefeated League Champions: 2018-2019 & 2019-2020 NOCC Finalist: 2021-22 87 Goals 32 games . +32 Goal Differential (Last 2 Years) CIF 1st Round: D6 2010-11, D5 2012-2013, D5 2013-2014, D5 2017-18. CIF 2nd Round: D6 2011-12, D5 2018-19. D5 2020-21 CIF Quarter Finalist: D42019-20 These results are a testament to the Work, to the Passion, to the Love that we bring to the everyday. Every Meeting, Every Practice, Every Game, Every Day!

  14. The Structure - Our Vision Junior Varsity teams consists of student athletes that are not on the Varsity team YET! * Junior High School? Junior College? Junior Varsity! * Junior = Preparatory JV will serve as a feeder team to Varsity, as these Student Athletes will be playing on Varsity as soon as they are Mentally, Physically, Technically, and Academically ready. Junior Varsity Soccer: Back-to-Back Undefeated League Champions: 2018-2019 & 2019-2020 69 Goals 34 games . +48 Goal Differential (Last 2 years) League Champions: 2018-19. 2019-20. CO-League Champs: 2013-14. 2016-2017 2nd Place: 2014-15. 2015-16. 2017-18. These results are a testament to the Work, to the Passion, to the Love that we bring to the everyday.   15. Know Your Role, Play Your Role STUDENT ATHLETE: is a participant in an organized competitive sport sponsored by the educational institution in which he or she is enrolled. Student-athletes are full time students and athletes at the same time. Role: To learn valuable, practical skills such as sportsmanship, time management, verbal communication with peers, and interaction and coordination in diverse groups. Their athletic endeavors enrich and augment the education they receive inside the classroom To commit to learning and DEVELOPING and understanding the team/game strategies while obeying the rules and regulations of the sport. To commit wholeheartedly to the Team, because THE STRENGTH OF THE TEAM IS EACH INDIVIDUAL AND THE STRENGTH OF EACH INDIVIDUAL IS THE TEAM. (You re not above the individual, and you re not above the team.)

  16. Know Your Role, Play Your Role COACH: responsible for training athletes in a sport by analyzing their performances, instructing in relevant skills and by providing encouragement. Also responsible for the guidance of the athlete in life and their chosen sport.. Role: To define the vision and create the opportunity for the individual and team to develop. To Focus on setting and achieving goals. The coach helps the athlete set meaningful ones and identify specific behaviors or steps for meeting them. The coach helps to clarify milestones or measures of success and holds the athlete accountable for them.. To commit wholeheartedly to the Team, because THE STRENGTH OF THE TEAM IS EACH INDIVIDUAL AND THE STRENGTH OF EACH INDIVIDUAL IS THE TEAM. (You re not above the individual, and you re not above the team.)

  17. Know Your Role, Play Your Role SUPPORTER: One who SUPPORTS and has an intense occasionally overwhelming liking and enthusiasm for a sporting club, person, group of persons, or team. Their contribution to the action on the pitch can, at times, be just as important as a star player producing a piece of magic that could turn a game in their favor. Role: SUPPORT! Sometimes we ll need to dig deep, and we can t do that without you. To commit wholeheartedly to the Team, because THE STRENGTH OF THE TEAM IS EACH INDIVIDUAL AND THE STRENGTH OF EACH INDIVIDUAL IS THE TEAM. (You re not above the individual, and you re not above the team.) Do s: Allow your daughter to be interested in playing soccer. Be willing to let your daughter make her own mistakes and learn from them. Be interested, and supportive, understanding and open hearted. Teach daughter to respect her peers and coaches. Model flexibility of your own opinion. Be willing to be wrong and move off your position. Don ts: Don t blame the ref, equipment, field, weather, coach, teammates for your daughter s performance. Don t expect perfection. Don t Push! PUSH!! PUSH!! PUSH!!! Don t tie your ego/image to your daughter s performance. Don t put yourself above the team. It s bigger than you are too.

  18. Soccer Systems POSSESSION - Keeping the ball with the purpose to overload and eventually exploit the defending team. DIRECT - Stop messing around and get the ball as fast from point A to point B and if that doesn't work look to win the second ball and keep playing directly forward. POSITIONAL - Don't roam around but stay true to your position on the pitch. FREE FLOW- the idea of free-flowing football or portionless football where everyone looks to occupy the necessary space in attack and not necessarily the one of their position THE COUNTERATTACK- Think of a counter puncher boxer, you punch and punch and punch and when the moment is right, they strike back with a devastating knockout LOW PRESS - This is a defensive system that is typically close to your own goal, certainly in your own half compacting the space making it difficult for opponents and also feeds into a counter attacking system offensively. HIGH PRESS - A defensive soccer system that is high in the opponents half looking to force turnovers in dangerous areas to create scoring opportunities for the defensive team.

  19. Playing In College There are reasons to continue your soccer career after high school. These are difficult to understand at first but try and listen to these with an open mind: TIME MANAGEMENT Practice, games, tests, homework, and projects are equally important as a student-athlete. You learn how to manage your time to get both your workouts in and do your homework and study. You learn that time is valuable and not to be wasted. COMMITMENT AND DEDICATION - Playing a sport in college is like having a job. If you don't show up to practice, your position on the team is in jeopardy. Sometimes it is hard to choose to stay in when your friends are going out because you have practice in the morning, or you wish you could go to the movies, but you have a game. However, as a college athlete, you must be dedicated and committed to the team. Learning to be committed and dedicated is important, because once you graduate, you will have to be committed to the career you choose. FINANCIAL AID/SCHOLARSHIPS- A bonus to continuing to play the sport you love is that many (however not all) college athletic programs will give you a scholarship or some sort of financial aid for playing. ACADEMICS - Priority registration, Athletic counselors, Coaches make sure you typically meet at least a 3.0 (similar to us if you do not have a high enough gpa you cannot play)

  20. Playing In College There are reasons to continue your soccer career after high school. These are difficult to understand at first but try and listen to these with an open mind: FITNESS - As a college student, you will notice that many of your non-athlete friends struggle with working out and gaining weight. They just can't seem to find the time to workout and the food in the cafeteria has begun to give them the notorious "freshman fifteen." Student athletes already have their workouts built into their schedule and learn proper nutrition for their bodies, so they avoid weight gain and unhealthy habits. Your body will thank you for playing a sport in college. STRESS RELIEVER - College is hard and the bottom line is that it is stressful. Students are overwhelmed in college and need something to help reduce their stress. Playing a sport in college is the perfect way to let off some steam and take a break from all the studying, homework, and projects. Physical activity helps reduce stress and anxiety and will make you a better, happier student. ENERGY! - College students are commonly said to be lazy and tired all the time. If you are a student-athlete though, you will most likely have more energy than your non-athlete friends. Physical activity helps pump more oxygen and blood throughout the body to all your body systems. The more oxygen and blood pumped, the more active you will feel. The extra energy you gain will help you manage your busy schedule and get everything done.

  21. Playing In College There are reasons to continue your soccer career after high school. These are difficult to understand at first but try and listen to these with an open mind: FRIENDSHIP AND SUPPORT - As a college athlete, you will get the support from some of the most influential people in your life. Your coaches, teammates, and trainers will help you with anything and everything you need. Everything from emotional slumps to academic goals. It is nice to have people who have your back. As a freshman, your teammates will be some of the first people you meet when you get to campus. You spend hours each day with your team at practices and games and will get very close with them very easily. Many of your best friends will be your teammates if you decide to play a college sport. SENSE OF PURPOSE - Being a part of something makes you feel like you have a purpose. By playing on a college athletic team, you will feel like you are important to the team and will develop a sense of purpose. Each member of the team is valuable in different ways. You really feel like you belong and are an asset to your team as a college athlete. When you achieve both your individual and team goals, you will get your sense of purpose

  22. Networking Ways our Athletes will be exposed to College: 1) College Scouts will make their way to our games. Division 3 is the most appealing we ve ever looked. I will be talking to scouts and coaches often! 2) We have plenty of Wilson Girls Soccer Alumni playing in college: - Aubree West 2011-Soka University-2011-2014 - Alison Kung 2014 Cal Poly Pomona 2014-2018 - Janessa Gallardo 2018 Rio Hondo 2018-2020 - Frida Monsalvo 2019 Mt SAC 2019 2021 - Cassandra Contreras, Sarah Parra, Jazmin Mikhael Cerritos 2020-2022 - Julia Gomez 2020 USC 2020-2024 - Ariana Cisneros 2020 Whittier 2020-2024 3) PUTTING YOURSELF OUT THERE! We will create College Recruiting profiles together and use that as the platform.

  23. Your Plate The RulesYour Plate has room for 3 portions: Family & God, School, and Soccer. 1) BE PRESENT AND BE ON TIME! 2) Push yourself ALWAYS! 3) Make mistakes, learn, and be better. 4) RESPECT Yourself, Teammates, Team, Coaches, Opponents, Refs, TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATION, and CUSTODIAL STAFF! 5) Be a team player! The name on the front of the jersey is bigger than the name on the back 6) HAVE FUN! But find the balance. 7) Celebrate the Small victories just as much as the Big ones. 8) Commit all the way! It s your only chance with THIS team. 9) Create individual goals and team goals. Then work for it! EARN your results. 10) Lead with Love. Don t lead with Fear.

  24. Creating the Culture This is the new era of Wilson Girls Soccer. We will come to create a new identity, a new style, a new vibe, but we will always carry a bit of who we used to be. We will remember our Alumni, their work, and their accomplishments. It wasn t an easy climb, and we know that ours won t be either. The only way we can climb is together. We lose together, we win together, we roar together.
