  1. Technical Advisory Committee April 6, 2022 1

  2. Agenda Finalizing NCS22 Updates: Aimsun GTAModel implementation XTMF 2022-23 work plan discussion: New PoRPoW model NWS destination choice modelling May 4th workshop: New Region of York Model Other business. Adjournment. 2

  3. NCS22: Current Status Updated in collaboration with agency members to reflect current realities Awaiting further feedback (if any) from TMG TAC members

  4. NCS22: Main Changes from NCS16 Transit Line Operator code (ut1) Link Type Updated from 11 to 37 transit agencies Removed Region Codes by census division Transit vehicle definitions & attributes Lane Capacity 19 NCS16 verses 30 in NCS22 Updated lane capacity and removed speed range to Link Functional Class & VDF definitions Seated and total capacities were updated Line speed Functional Class & VDF Indices spd & us1 definition changed from 999 to 0 respectively. Freedom to use posted vs freeflow speed when coding networks. To be determined by the modellers Value of 0 halts the line and makes it easier to debug Modes segment speeds should be the average stop to stop travel time Included more modes and mode code descriptions such as E-bicycles, E-scooters, autonomous vehicles, and trucks, etc. Transit Line Description Centroid Numbers 6-character alphanumeric line name increased to 7-character Zone centroids ranges updated to include more regions, unassigned and station centroids Updated number of transit agencies including Niagara, Waterloo, Burlington, Guelph, and York regions Other Link Attributes added more breakdowns for toll such as toll3, toll_mtruck, toll_htruck, and toll_zone

  5. TMGToolbox for Aimsun Able to run import a NWP, build a transit scenario, and run macro assignments Currently working on improving the automation of importing demand and extracting skim matrices

  6. XTMF 1.10 Will support EMME 4.6 Python3 version of the TMGToolbox included in addition to Python2 Supports reading/writing compressed MTX files Module children can now be ordered instead of being alphabetical Quick Parameters are now sorted when saved to run directory Fully backwards compatible to XTMF 1.6 Assorted UX improvements Expected Release: July 2022

  7. XTMF 2.0 New Parameter Expression subsystem Allows you to setup a parameter that can change at runtime e.g., output files whose paths change depending on iteration Works with integers, floating point, Boolean, and string types. Supports numeric operands, comparisons, and conditionals (cond) ? (IfTrue) : (IfFalse) TMGToolbox 2 for EMME We have started building out the tools required for running GTAModel This process is taking additional time as we are going though all of the tooling to improve code quality and adding automated testing to both reduce regressions and help test against multiple versions of EMME going forward.

  8. Documentation We have started working on Version 2.0 documentation Starting with EMME modules http://tmg.utoronto.ca/doc/2.0/tmgtoolbox2_emme/tools/As sign/AssignTraffic.html

  10. Discussion: New PoRPoW Model (1) Move WfH out of population synthesis and into the PoRPoW model. Scenario input rates. Distinguish between: True WfH (i.e., no workplace outside of the home). How is the job handled in the zonal employment data? Telecommuting (i.e., an out-of-home workplace exists but the worker is working at home today ). Worker is assigned a job location as usual but the Work Project determines whether the worker goes to work on the simulated day (i.e., an activity episode generation issue). Other issues? Policy analysis needs? 10

  11. Discussion: New PoRPoW Model (2) Add external workers & jobs into the PoRPoW model. Keep large external zones or go to full TAZ system for externals? In either case, network coding, assignment & travel time calculation issues? Treatment of External-External linkages? Handling of non-work I-E & E-I trips/tours? Other issues? Internal External Policy analysis needs? Internal ? External 11

  12. Discussion: NWS Destination Choice Currently simple logit destination choice models are used. Opportunities for improvements: Improved choice set rules. Improved attraction & travel LOS variables. Policy analysis needs? 12
