Purpose of the Meeting Provide a brief description of the Schoolwide Title 1 Program: Describe how school determines who is served in Title 1 School-Based Program School-Wide- Able to serve all students based on needs assessment/ CSIP-School-wide plan Explain the program by describing the: Curriculum used at the school Types of academic assessments used to measure student s progress Proficiency levels students are expected to meet Parents can be involved in the development of schoolwide plans, revisions of division level and school level parent and family engagement policies and determining how funds will be used for Parent Family Engagement Explain the Parent and Family Engagement Policy Discuss required annual notifications such as the Right to Know and Assessment Participation Policy notification, Four Week Letter, and EL Parent Notification Provide time for Parent Feedback 2

  3. What is Title I? Title I, Part A--Improving Basic Programs Federal Law intended to support the educational needs of children form low-income families Federal funds are provided to identified schools. These funds are to be used to provide additional support, mainly in the areas of reading and mathematics. The goal of the Title I program is to improve student achievement. Title 1 programs must use instructional strategies supported by scientifically based research. We incorporate reading and math support throughout the day and have specialized positions that focus on reading and math We also provide two support opportunities, Ignite tutoring during school and All-In tutoring after school We host special events, like our upcoming March Madness Reading Event that incorporates reading strategies with parent involvement and best practices. Parent and Family engagement is an important part of the Title I program. There are few strategies as powerful in raising student achievement as active, engaged parents 3

  4. What is Title I? Title I, Part A--Improving Basic Programs Parent and Family engagement is an important part of the Title I program. There are few strategies as powerful in raising student achievement as active, engaged parents We have monthly meetings with families and the principal where we can foster deeper relationships and reinforce our partnership for student success We meet monthly with parents through our Parents and Educational Partners meeting that focuses on sharing strategies that will help families foster a culture of learning at home. Throughout the year, we have afterschool events, such as math and reading nights and parent-teacher conferences, that support our goals for student learning by providing an opportunity for further discussions. 4

Title 1 Schoolwide Program Every student can benefit from Title I services and support Teachers, specialists, and administrators review data to determine which students may need extra support Frequency and duration of support services is determined by student need Title 1 monies fund the Reading and Math Support Teachers to help strengthen instructional practices Types of services include (but are not limited to): Classroom teacher support Small group instruction (push-in or pull-out) Individual instruction Schoolwide events for students and families Title 1 monies fund instructional support materials 5

Continuous School Improvement Plan Title 1 schools are required to develop a School-Wide Title 1 Plan based on a comprehensive needs assessment each year The goals for Jennie Dean Elementary School are Students will continue to show improvement in performance in mathematics. Students will continue to show improvement in attaining their reading goals. Students, staff, and family members will continue to indicate empirically that they believe they are part of a caring and collaborative community at Jennie Dean Elementary School. 85% of our students will attend school at least 97% of the school year. Parents are invited to participate in the development and writing of the CSIP- Schoolwide Plan 6

Parent/ Family Engagement Policy Each Title I school is required to have a school Parent Engagement Policy This policy explains how the school division or the school itself supports the important role of parents in the education of their children. Every school and division that receives Title 1 money must have a Parent Engagement Policy. The policy covers a wide-range of support, such as, What the school staff will do to support parent engagement How school staff will communicate with parents How parents may be ask for input on school plan Jennie Dean Elementary School s Policy can be found here: https://bit.ly/jenniedeanfamily Parents are encouraged to participate in the review and updating of the school Parent/ Family Engagement Policy.   8. Parent Right to Know Letter At the beginning of the school year, all parents in a Title 1 school receive a letter called the Right to Know letter. This letter lets parents know they have the right to request specific information on their child s teacher, such as whether the teacher meets the state qualifications and licensing criteria for the grades and subjects he or she teachers, the teacher s college major, whether the teacher has any advanced degrees, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree, and whether paraprofessionals provide services to their child. This letter was sent home with your child earlier in the school year. Please contact the main office if you would like an additional copy of this letter. 8

Every Student Succeeds Act- Four Week Letter This letter is also known as the Assignment of Teacher for More Than Four Weeks not Meeting Certification/ Licensure Requirements Section 1112(e)(B)(ii) of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 states that any school that receives Title I funds must inform parents if their child is assigned a teacher for four or more consecutive weeks who does not meet applicable state certification or licensure requirements at the grade level and subject area in which the teacher has been assigned. In a schoolwide school, this includes all teachers and personnel required to hold a teaching license in the grades and subjects they teach. A teacher with a provisional license in the subject they teach is considered properly licensed. This requirement does not include guidance counselors, speech/language pathologists, or administrators; however, all licensing requirements in a Title I school are encouraged. In a targeted assistance school, any teacher paid with Title I funds must be properly licensed and endorsed for the grades and subjects they teach. This letter was sent home with your child earlier in the school year. Please contact the main office if you would like an additional copy of this letter. 9

EL Parent Notification Letter School divisions are required to inform parents annually regarding their child s placement in a language instruction education program within 30 days after beginning of the school year, or within two weeks of the child s placement within a program. The EL Parent Notification Letter was sent from Central Office on September 15th. Newly enrolled students who have been identified for ESOL services have the letter sent from their individual school. 10

  11. Parental Notification of Assessment Opt Out Policies under the Every Student Succeeds Act (2015) Parents have the right to ask about assessment opt out policies. According to state and federal law, all students at tested grade levels are expected to participate in SOL tests or alternative assessments unless specifically exempted by state or federal law, or by Board of Education regulations (8VAC20-131-30).   12. School Quality Profile The Virginia Department of Education is required to post information for each public school in the Commonwealth to engage parents and keep them informed through a School Quality Profile. The profile contains information on student achievement, enrollment, and teacher quality as well as other information. A link to the School s Quality Profile can be found on our website.   13. Family Engagement/ Parent Input Meetings The following are dates for engagement events, opportunities, and advisory meetings. February 23rd, 10:00: March Madness Reading introductory event February 29th, 10:00: March Madness Reading Parent Meeting March 20th, 10:00: March Madness Finale and Celebration PEP meetings are monthly. The next meeting is March 12th. More information is on our website. Coffee and Doughnuts with the Principal - more information will be shared via Remind and on our website. There will be literacy and math celebration nights in the spring. More information will be shared via Remind. It is greatly understood that families have to work and may not be available during the day. All events that take place during the school day will have an option to be viewed via Microsoft Teams. Information will be included as part of the announcement for that event. 13
