- Medical Bio Lab - Bacterial Culture Test
What is Bacterial culture Culture media :Is a method of multiplying microbial organisms by letting them produce in culture media under controlled laboratory conditions . Bacteria like any living cell they need organic and inorganic materials for their live(water, carbon, nitrogen, mineral, growth factors & Agar-poly saccharides). Culture media is used to determine the type of microorganism , a sample of harmful bacteria will be taken from the infected part of your body . So it is one of primary diagnostic methods of microbiology.
Types of Bacterial Media: I-Types depend on Its physical state: 1-Liquid-broth culture (Nutrient broth,potato-meat extract broth..) 2-Semi solid 3-Solid (Nutrient agar, MacConky agar, Chocolate agar, Blood agar, ) II-Types depend on Its Uses: 1-Simple media to grow different types of M.O 2-Special & Selective media to growing (pathogenic bacteria,& the m.o. that required special nutrients like meat extract, blood .proteins ....) 3-Differential & transport media
Tools used for bacterial culture: We have many tools like petri dishes, loops, burners, oven, slides, microscope, cotton swab & incubater to arrange the experiment, in the end we use autoclave for damage & sterilization the culture.
Bacterial Culture Test What is a Bacteria Culture Test? Bacteria are a large group of one-celled organisms. They can live on different places in the body. Some types of bacteria are harmless or even beneficial. Others can cause infections and disease. A bacteria culture test can help find harmful bacteria in your body. During a bacteria culture test, a sample will be taken from your blood, urine, skin, or other part of your body. The type of sample depends on the location of the suspected infection.
-The cells in your sample will be taken and put in a special environment in a lab to encourage cell growth. Results are often available within a few days. But some types of bacteria grow slowly, and it may take several days or longer. -Types of Bacterial Culture Test are: Throat culture, Wound culture (swab) ,Urine culture, Stool culture & Blood culture & Sputum culture (sample). There are no known risks to having a swab or blood test or to providing a urine or stool sample.
We are need to do bacterial culture test if we have symptoms of a bacterial infection. The symptoms vary depending on the type of infection. The Result :If enough bacteria is found in your sample, it likely means you have a bacterial infection. A susceptibility test is used to help determine which antibiotic will be most effective in treating your infection.
