What are the Concepts for me? Concepts were a mystery Seldom heard at meetings Concepts III through V, IX and XII deal with spiritual principles All tied to the six Warranties In short The Twelve Concepts for World Service were written by A.A. s co- founder Bill W and were adopted by the General Service Conference of Alcoholics Anonymous in 1962. The Concepts are an interpretation of A.A. s world service structure as it emerged through A.A. s early history and experience. Concept IV - Right of Participation Short Form: At all responsible levels, we ought to maintain a traditional Right of Participation, allowing a voting representation in reasonable proportion to the responsibility that each must discharge. 1. Am I participating fully and fearlessly in life (AA, home, and work) or am I held back by my fearfulness? 2. Am I qualified or fit to participate? 3. Am I granting others the right to make their own mistakes or do I try to restrict their freedom and give advice based on fear? Spiritual Principal: PARTICIPATION 2/15/20 4
Concept V - Right of Appeal Short Form: Throughout our structure, a traditional Right of Appeal ought to prevail, so that minority opinion will be heard, and personal grievances receive careful consideration. 1. When I have a personal grievance, do I have the courage to state it (in a loving manner) or am I still a doormat? 2. How do I treat those who have opinions that differ from mine? Do I carefully and calmly consider them? Spiritual Principal: DEMOCRACY 2/15/20 5
