  1. Concussion Service Variation 1 July 2023

  2. Contract changes include Removal of prior approval for Assessment and Triage (Stage 1). Removal of the direct concussion codes from GP and DHB referrals - we can still accept direct referrals however the codes will no longer be separated. From 1 July any direct concussion referrals from DHBs and GPs will be set up as a normal concussion contract. Triage codes (30mins call) remains - only to be charged if the client does not progress to Concussion service Removal of prior approval for Treatment and Rehabilitation (Stage 2) services. The Key Worker will still need to complete the ACC884 report and send to ACC within 10 business days of seeing the client, but can now commence treatment without having to wait for approval. At this stage we are unclear if ACC will be making changes to the reporting template - we will update the team once clarified.

  3. Contract changes continued General pricing increase across codes and capped budget increase from $3,551.98 to $3,761.06. Please note the hourly rates have increased so be mindful of your costings. In addition to the costing sheet in the report, a separate costing sheet will be loaded in Letters and uploads that will need to be updated and reflect the input being provided under the service. This can help you track the funding as you go. When the key worker is ready to move to stage 2, please send an email to referrals@bodyinmotion.co.nz requesting the contract is upgraded and the budgets are uploaded as per costing sheet. Please note the concussion contract will now be loaded in gensolve as Concussion Stage 1 / Concussion Stage 2. All current concussion services still in Stage 1 can proceed to Stage 2 without prior approval. Removal of the telehealth specific service item codes, however telehealth is still OK to use when appropriate.

  4. Contract changes continued Introduced a requirement to use and record outcome measures for clients completing Stage 2 (such as the Brain Injury Screening Tool, BIST). It appears ACC are moving towards favouring the Brain Injury Screening Tool (BIST) over the Rivermead questionnaire, it is currently unclear how we will use the BIST screening tool on completion of service. It is suggested you continue to use the rivermead until we have further information. All concussion contracts must be completed within 6 months from date of referral. ACC have introduced a KPI target of 65% of clients moving from Stage 1 to Stage 2.
