  2. Learning Objective: To give students a greater understanding of conflict and the skills to appropriately navigate conflict. Step One: Distribute Student Response forms Step Two: Follow PP and links to video Step Three: Extra Credit Role Play!! ASCA: B-SS 9. Demonstrate social maturity and behaviors appropriate to the situation and environment

  3. Question One: WHAT IS A CONFLICT? Conflict is when people disagree on an issue, or can't get along well. This is just a part of life. It's natural for people to disagree at times, because we all have different interests, values, goals and needs. Sometimes we don't understand other people and what they really mean, or they don t understand us.

  5. QUESTION TWO: In the video, Kid President explains that Step One in getting along with others is to Treat people like people , also known as the Golden Rule . Do you agree with Kid President? Yes or No please justify your response.

  6. QUSETION THREE: Why does Kid President identify LISTENING as such an important behavior/action in squashing conflicts and getting along with others?

  9. MORE TIPS IN RESOLVING CONFLICTS: 1. Try and talk one on one - not in front of others 2. Pay attention to your verbal tone breathe 3. Try and start with a positive comment 4. Be at the same eye level 5. Try and use I statements and avoid saying You as much as possible 6. Pay attention to your body language for example arms crossed or fists balled 7. Relax your facial muscles

  10. EXTRA CREDIT QUESTION SIX Who is Nelson Mandela and why is he famous? EXTRA CREDIT Role Play Activity 1. Split students into groups of five or six 2. Students should develop a very brief skit demonstrating a conflict nominate two students to act out the conflict in front of the class 3. After each skit ask the class to brainstorm on what the actors could do differently to resolve conflict. 4. Do skit a second time using the suggestions from the video, PP and classmates.
