We have a long way to go. 70% of Teachers are woman but only 38% of secondary heads are 14.3% of teachers are minority ethnic origin but vast majority of Headteachers are white 98% of largest Multi Academy Trusts CEO s are white (source Schools Week) Over 70% of teachers are female but only 38% of secondary Heads are women and only 28% of the largest Multi Academy Trust CEOs are female 17% of secondary staff BAME but only 3% of heads non- white 3% of large MAT CEO are non- white.

  3. What I have heard Promotion stops at middle leadership Recruitment is not open and transparent More could be done to encourage, mentor, develop Can not be my authentic self Discrimination exists, sometimes subtle, sometimes not Staff feel isolated and seen as troublemakers if raise concerns

  4. Inclusion is an emotion We need to embed equality and diversity but crucially move to build inclusion for lasting change. This is not a thing to do, it is a way of being As most leaders in the sector are white, allyship is vital. This matters to schools in all context.

  5. Building Inclusion Get expert help Educate all leaders this is a whole school/Group issue Build staff engagement and trust e.g. networks Ensure you have data and intelligence Develop a whole Trust/school plan and be patient Set out your priorities and resource them Monitor progress and not just numbers
