  3. 2022 Benefits: A Focus on Employee Wellbeing Over the past year and a half, the pandemic has impacted people s lives and their perceptions of what they value most Recent survey data from multiple sources has revealed that employees have made their own sense of well-being a priority This has created a spotlight on employee benefits as a powerful force in building a culture of well being and a positive employee experience This year, more than ever, it is important for every benefit eligible employee to understand what benefits they have available to them and how those benefits can assist them in their own pursuit of wellbeing in these challenging and uncertain times

  4. 2022 Benefits: A Focus on Employee Well Being Employee wellbeing is a holistic or whole person combination of physical, mental and financial health that impact an employee s sense of well being Because these aspects are interconnected and equally important, benefits that address the full spectrum of employee wellness are likely to have the most impact A feeling of wellbeing leaves employees much less vulnerable to the troubling effects of burnout, stress and anxiety while improving their resilience and productivity

  9. Protection Against Unexpected Loss The pandemic has made employees aware that an illness can dramatically impact their ability to work, pay bills and support their families. They also realize the need for comprehensive insurance to protect their way of life against the unexpected The following plans offered through the Archdiocese provide cash payments to members who have experienced an accident or illness and are enrolled in any of the following plans: Critical Illness Accident Hospital Indemnity Short Term Disability Administration of the above plans will transition from AFLAC to TransAmerica 01/01/22. Employees currently enrolled will transfer to the Transamerica plan. If you wish to drop coverage you must go into Benefitfocus and decline it

  12. Financial Health: HSA and FSA For those on the HDHP plan and contributing to the HSA, know that your HSA can help you with more than just health care expenses. You can invest your HSA contributions, any gains made are tax free HSA maximum annual contributions: $3650 (single) and $7,300 (family) If you are 55 or older you are eligible to contribute an additional $1,000 to your account Once you are over age 65, you can withdraw funds from your account for non health care expenses without any penalty. Those withdraws are taxed similar to retirement fund withdrawals Effective January 1, 2022, Benefitfocus is changing their HSA plan administration to Health Equity. Please watch for an email on how to transfer your HSA account after open enrollment.

  13. Financial Health: FSA FSA plans allow employees to save money by using pre-tax deductions to pay for non-reimbursed medical or daycare expenses Current annual limits for FSA contributions: $2,750 (medical) and $5,000 (daycare) Sample Illustration: These plans require some planning prior to enrolling. There is a grace period at the end of the plan year to incur claims for reimbursement but the unused money does not roll over from year to year

  14. Archdiocesan Medical Plan Structure One plan with centralized administration at the Archdiocesan level offering benefits to 186 individual entities Within that structure, employees are considered transfers when changing locations rather than being termed and rehired This means that a transfer between locations does not constitute a Qualified Life Event (QLE) and opportunity to change benefits Before transferring to another location, be sure to inquire about the employee cost sharing on benefits as cost sharing is determined by each location

  15. Benefit Plan Compliance IRS Rules Pre-tax premium health plans are governed by IRS regulations. This means that once the plan year begins on January 1, 2022, benefit elections will remain in place for the entire plan year unless there is a Qualified Life Event (QLE) such as getting married, having a baby or losing employer-sponsored coverage In the event of a QLE, there is a window of 30 days (from the date of the life event)within which to contact the Benefitfocus Service Center at 1-833-272-4776 for assistance on how to change to add or drop benefits

  16. Benefit Plan Compliance Affordable Care Act (ACA) The Affordable Care Act requires that employees who work the required number of hours during the annual look- back period receive an offer of benefits The look-back period runs from October 16 to the following October 15 of each year. The Archdiocese reviews total hours worked for every Archdiocesan employee based on payroll information reported to PenServ Total hours worked must equal 1560 during the look-back period. To account for the time that schools are not in session teachers must work 1,080 hours and all other school employees 1,020 hours Those employees who meet the hours requirement will be offered benefits and those who do not will receive a COBRA offer Hours for those employees working in multiple locations will be aggregated Once an employee is eligible during the look-back period they remain eligible for benefits for that entire following plan year, even if they transition to part-time status

  17. Plan Compliance BSBS has an actively-at-work cause written into their plan document This means that unless an employee is on an approved FMLA leave, their absence from work on any other type of extended personal leave, would require them to be on COBRA for extension of health care coverage COBRA would also be offered for life insurance and dental coverage (if enrolled) Benefit eligibility dates are based upon the date the employee actually starts working the first of the month following date of hire or the first of the month but only in situations where the employee actually begins working on the first day of the month

  18. Reminders Enrollment will be completed online through the Benefitfocus Content Management website at archspm.org/benefits. Failure to go through the enrollment process will not result in your benefits being cancelled with the exception of the HSA and FSA accounts which need to be updated each year. Instead your 2021 benefits elections will default to the 2022 plan year. If you wish to cancel any or all benefits, you must go into the system and cancel/decline them. Contact the Benefitfocus Service Center at 1-833-272-4776 or archspm@Benefitfocus.com for help with password resets, problems with accessing the web portal or if you need to enroll by phone. Prior to enrolling, obtain a cost-sharing list from your manager (benefit cost-sharing is determined at the parish level) and Social Security numbers and dates of birth for any new dependents. Verification is required for all new dependents and must be submitted to Benefitfocus no later than November 17, 2021 for coverage to be effective for 2022. When completed, be sure to review and print a copy of your enrollment election Confirmation forms will be sent to your home address from Benefitfocus in early December. Please review this document carefully to ensure there are no discrepancies between what you thought you enrolled in and what actually is reflected in this document. Any errors will need to be reported to the Archdiocese prior to December 31, 2021.

  19. Open Enrollment: Questions to Consider Before Enrolling Are there any changes in my life that might make another health insurance choice more valuable this year? Do I anticipate any new expenses next year that might change my current elections? Did I pay out-of-pocket expenses this year that could be covered by an insurance option next year? Are there changes I can make to my budget that would allow me to increase tax-deferred savings through a flexible spending account or a health savings account? Have I checked to see if all my providers are still in-network? Have I taken the time to view the videos on each of the benefits that are available to me so that I can make an informed decision about my benefit elections? There is no better time than now to revisit your benefits and take advantage of the opportunities available to meet your physical, mental and financial health needs.
