Portfolio Project Yahteiana Osborne NETW251 - Network Design & Implementation K. Wolfe
Benefits of My Design New protocol to collect and organize information Information collection from switches is no longer necessary. Protocol added to improve network management.
Project Goals Implement DHCP SNMP Room for expansion Little to no downtime within network
Project Scope Sufficient bandwidth Solutions during network failure. Better solution for IP addressing
Business Goals Allow easy expansion Added protocols that will aid when adding new devices. Easy to manage Protocols added to help with network management . Better connectivity Newer devices and cables.
Current State of Network Network congestion Slow response times Not SNMP-manageable DHCP not implemented Coding individual IP addresses can become time consuming
Naming Convention Each naming convention shows Device Location Type of Device Device s Unique Number Provides organization to the network. EX: NetCorSwitch01 Type of Device: Switch Location of Device: Network Core Unique Device Number: 1 EX: ChPlSwitch01 Location of Device: Children s Place Type of Device: Switch Unique Device Number: 1
IP Addressing Convention Building(s) Main Building 1 Main Building 2 Children s Place Buildings A-E Buildings F-J Buildings K-L Core Network WAN Remote Clinic Network Address 10.1.0.0/16 10.2.0.0/16 10.3.0.0/16 10.4.0.0/16 10.5.0.0/16 10.6.0.0/16 10.10.0.0/16 10.50.0.0/16 10.100.0.0/16
Routing Protocol & Network Management Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) Helps find the shortest path to pass data within a large network Single Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Provides best internal security SNMPv3 provides encryption to data transmitted within the network
Devices Core Layer 3560-24PS Multi-layer Switch 1941 Routers Allows better speeds within the network. Distribution Layer Switch-PT-Empty Better connectivity for expanding networks. Access Layer 2960 Switches Used as a cheaper option to save hospital funds.
