EO1100 CDSC Teach-In
EO 1100: What is it? EO1100 is designed to: Clarify requirements Equitable opportunity for student success Streamline graduation requirements CSUN administration interprets EO1100 to require the elimination of Section F In place of Section F CSUN administration proposes a comparative cross-cultural overlay in Humanities (Section C) and Social Science (Section D)
EO1100 and Section F Section F: Comparative Cultural Studies These courses created by and that sustain Ethnic, Gender and Women s Studies, and Queer Studies Creation of Section F: an act of moral courage built on forty years of activism (Brian Burkhart) Section F courses were designed to create counter-narratives to dominant culture from within GE EO1100 refers to sections A-E as required for all CSU campuses, but does not actually specify the elimination of Section F (Susan Fitzpatrick)
Impacts of Eliminating Section F Affects Students of Color: 67% of CSUN of incoming freshmen are of color (CHS letter) Undermines Ethnic, GWS, Queer Studies: Section F courses sustain these departments/programs through GE offerings Reduced FTES could -> elimination of these programs/departments Negatively affects underrepresented students Undermines Student Success CDSC report shows that student success is tied to a feeling of belonging that social justice and diversity-based programming provides Affects lecturers who teach Section F courses
