Masyarakat abad pertengahan: dimanfaatkan untuk tujuan politis dan keagamaan Renaissance: sarana menuju budaya pribadi yg bebas dan perkembangan individual Mulai abad XVII: kecenderungan pengaruh perkembangan psikologi, social, dan ilmu pengetahuan
