  1. Excellence Initiative Research University (2020-2026) - IDUB Programme Justyna Piecha, MA senior specialist in the Research Services Office (IDUB Team) Acting Coordinator of the Action IV.4.1 of the IDUB Programme

  2. IDUB Programme at the UW Excellence Initiative Research University (2020-2026) is a programme of the Ministry of Education and Science, which gives the University of Warsaw opportunities to raise the level of quality in scientific activity and education and, as a result, to increase the international prestige of the University s activities. In 2020 Ministry organised the competition for 20 universities. Among the 10 winners UW tookfirst place and was granted the status of a research university for 2020-2026. The proposal by the University of Warsaw includes a description of 5 priority research areas (called POB) and 70 actions planned for the period of 2020-2026, to make the University more internationally recognised as a centre of research.

  3. Action IV.4.1 A complex programme of support for UW PhD students It consists of two types of competition: 1. Microgrants to co-finance the publication and research activities of PhD students (2nd edition now), 2. 1st call for IDUB scholarships for the preparation of doctoral dissertations on POB-related topics (in preparation, planned date of announcement: 20 October 2022).

  4. Microgrants in Action IV.4.1 Aim: to provide co-financing for the publication activities and specific research activities of PhD students at the UW, which will improve the quality of research carried out by doctoral candidates in connection with dissertation preparation, and facilitate their defence. Categories of activities,which are co-financed: 1) proofreading, 2) Open Access, 3) participation in a research query abroad, 4) participation in specialised training, 5) participation in a foreign scientific conference, 6) a short-term research trip, 7) a long-term research trip, 8) conducting scientific research, 9) conducting scientific research as part of a scientific trip.

  5. Microgrants in Action IV.4.1 co-financing of publications activities Proofreading covering the costs of correcting a scientific text for publication in a journal, or a chapter in a monograph, by a native speaker. Purchasing an Open Access option for an article or chapter in a monograph. It is related for articles submitted to journals that are rated in the top 25% according to Scopus in a given discipline, or with 200, 140, or 100 points in the current list by MEiN or the monographs published in a publishing house from Level II of the current list by MEiN. The applicant should be the leading and/or correspondent author of the text and this text should be included in the applicant s doctoraldissertation. Maximum co-financing amount:15 000 PLN (article), 30 000 PLN (monograph).

  6. Microgrants in Action IV.4.1 co-financing of research activities Participation in a research query abroad (archives, libraries, databases, etc.), participation in specialised training courses (e.g. seasonal schools, workshops, or any other form of professional training), active participation in a foreign scientific conference/seminar may be financed (including fee, traveland accommodation costs). Maximum co-financing up to:10 000 PLN (query); 12 000 PLN (training); 15 000 PLN (conference).

  7. Microgrants in Action IV.4.1 co-financing of research activities A short/long-term research trip, conducting scientific research (at UW), conducting scientific research as part of a scientific trip Applications in these categories of activities are subject to a substantive assessment by two experts from the panel of experts of the scientific discipline in which the doctoral dissertation is being prepared. A letter of intent from the host institution, in which the host institution confirms its willingness to provide substantive guidance of the applicant for the duration of the trip and designates an academic tutor, is required. The maximum amount of co-financing may not exceed: 25 000 PLN (short-term trip), 50 000 PLN (long-term trip), 30 000 PLN (conducting scientific research).

  8. Important matters Where can you find support? The co-financed project willbe implemented within the unit in which the PhD student conducts research, in accordance with the procedures applicable in this entity; therefore, if you need sb to help you complete your application you should contact with people responsible for the research or the financial services of this unit (e.g. research services section -sekcja obs ugi bada in PL).
