POINT 1: THE PRAYER AND CONFIDENCE OF THE PSALMIST POINT 1: THE PRAYER AND CONFIDENCE OF THE PSALMIST ( (Psalms 86:1 Psalms 86:1- -17; 87:1 17; 87:1- -7; 88:13 7; 88:13- -14; 50:15) 14; 50:15) The Psalmist prayed in times of distress and difficulties. He was poor, needy and in danger due to intense persecution. He demonstrated faith and confidence in God for deliverance through prayers. The contents of his prayers include: 1. The knowledge of God and His ways- Psalms 86:11. Christian youths should also pray to know more about God 2. Mercy and deliverance from enemies- Psalms 86:13-16 3. Strength for his fainting soul. Believers must seek God s strength when confronted with life s challenges 4. God s goodness, help and comfort- Psalms 86:17 5. Praise to God for His love to Israel Psalms 87:1-3, 1 Peter 2:9 Christian youths should cultivate daily habit of praying and emulate the Psalmist s pattern of prayers in times of troubles

Here, the Psalmist portrayed a desperate and near hopeless situation due to delay in answer to prayers. He had lots of troubles and challenges (Psalms 88:2,3). Some of his troubles highlighted include: 1. Near death experience- Psalms 86:4-6 2. Sundry afflictions- Psalms 88:7-9 3. Separation from loved ones- Psalms 88:8,18 4. Disapproval from neighbors- Psalms 89: 41 5. Victimization by the enemies- Psalms 89:42 6. Defeat in life s battles- Psalms 89:45 Christian youths must know that life is a battle ground not a playground (A.W. Tozer). Like the Psalmist, when you are going

Nothing should separate us from the love of Christ.

(Psalms 89:1) Psalms 89 focuses on God s covenant with David vs 20,3. A covenant is an agreement between two parties to do or not to do something David was a special man who loved God from his youth. God s covenant to David include: 1. An everlasting throne and Kingship- Psalms 89:4 2. Unfailing kindness and faithfulness- Psalms 89:33 3. Unbroken covenant- Psalms 89:33,34
