  1. 1:1 Technology @ GVMS This slideshow, and additional information can be found at www.garfield16.org

  2. District Vision for Instructional Technology Garfield 16 utilizes a variety of strategies that integrate technology to improve student achievement. The hallmark of implementation at Garfield 16 is that no technology is implemented for technology s sake. Although we hope to be on the cutting edge of educational technology, all implementation is the result of careful consideration and identification of specific academic achievement goals. Technology must empower and enable students as they learn. The instructional technology vision of Garfield 16 is to become a school district that can support a 1:1 learning environment. We envision students being able to connect with their world in new and profound ways to broaden their educational experience. We also envision students and teachers keep a robust record of the learning process that can guide academic programing on an individual level. Our planning is an ongoing process and includes our technology committee reviewing progress and all staff having input to help revise the plan. Because technology changes rapidly, an annual review process is in place with final review by the technology committee.

  3. Students are connected, we need to teach them appropriate use, and the power of the internet. Students literally have all human knowledge at their fingertips ...this was once science fiction. As educators, we will find less of a need to have students recall facts. You can find any fact, even without using your hands .. ok google If someone wants to learn something new, there is a plethora of resources that students can access online. We must teach students how to find & synthesize appropriate information, as well how to think for themselves and expand this wealth of information.

  4. Chromebook expectations of students in school GVHS & GVMS -Students will be allowed to take chromebooks home daily Students are expected to bring their chromebook fully charged each school day. BUE -Students will utilize chromebooks in daily instruction, but not take them home. Students are expected to use only the chromebook assigned to them. Like a textbook, students are responsible for damages to the student s chromebook. GVHS and GVMS families will be required to sign a Chromebook Agreement -Garfield 16 -2018 that includes additional expectations for using the chromebooks in class & at home.

  5. Insurance for chromebooks Students are responsible for any damages to the chromebook computer checked out to them. Full coverage insurance may be purchased at the cost of $20 -$35 per year - per chromebook Must be purchased before September 21st. If you don't want your student to take a computer home? (GVHS,GVMS) The school will provide a storage location at the school. This does not exempt students from online homework or safety of the computer.

  6. What are chromebooks? Click here for a slideshow tutorial about chromebooks In brief Chromebooks do not store files or programs like a PC or Mac. All documents (files) and applications (programs) are stored online in the cloud . Chromebooks access the internet directly. Chromebooks are faster due to no need for startup programs or processes. Chromebooks are cheaper, due to less hardware inside. Chromebooks are friendlier to use. Only garfield16.org users can log onto G16 chromebooks. Why Chromebooks? - Price, Accessibility, Ease of Use, Ability to Monitor, and Google Apps for Education products enhance the digital classroom.

  7. Papers that need to be returned prior to getting a computer Garfield 16 - Chromebook Agreement Optional Services Securly web filtering App/Plug n Play Hub (you will automatically receive an email update if we have your email on file in our infinite campus system) Chromebook Insurance -$20-$35 per year per computer

  8. Securly Web Filter Legally, your student will be filtered anytime they login to chrome using any device Even if you log in to another device with school account -you are filtered Parents can add additional filtering policies for student home use ..(coming soon) Deny internet access after a certain time Deny access to websites (in addition / extension to the school filtering) Free -parents & guardians can manage the take home policy for their student Parents cannot lessen the filters set by the school district. Why can t students bring their own devices? Students wouldn t be filtered on their own device. Only if students are logged into chrome will they be filtered We can t assure that students are logged into chrome on their personal device, and therefore can t assure they are being filtered appropriately. Equity issues, not everyone has access to the same personal technology.

  9. Securly Web Filter (continued)

  10. gScholar in the classroom In addition to Securly web filtering, teachers have access to their students computer tabs with a program called gScholar. Teachers can automatically close student tabs, take a screenshot of their page, or quickly share a page with them.

  11. Accessing assignments while offline. Students can still use gDocs, gSheets, gSlides, and gDrawings offline. Edits will sync automatically when internet service resumes. When in school students can open & cache videos to watch later at home. Students can open required tabs at school, that they will need to complete their homework later.

  12. Inexpensive Online options. Cheap internet at home Comcast Essentials -$9.95 for families with students on free and reduced lunch CenturyLink Internet Basics -$9.95 for families with students on free and reduced lunch Grand Valley Rec Center -Free Wireless access Parachute Branch -Garfield County Libraries GVHS, GVMS, CFL and BUE all have outdoor Wifi access points. Students can sit outside of a school, and get internet access, even during non-school hours.
