Titus 2:5 I Timothy 5:14
Man (male) is head of the woman (female) I Tim. 2:13; I Cor. 11:3 Headship in family is the husband/father (male) Eph. 5:23, Col. 3:18 The wife who has children to look after honors the husband s headship assisting him with well-ordered and stable home for raising children (Titus 2:5) Management skills employed daily to keep the home clean, orderly and safe for raising up children. Looking well to household fosters praise not competition and resentment (Prov. 31:27-29)
Context set beginning in I Timothy 5:3 Honor widows that are widows indeed. Really ??? Focusing on source of support desolate (I Tim. 5:5a; 4, 8, 16) Widows enrolled put on list (I Tim. 5:9) Being supported will serve church especially needs of other women (Titus 2:4, I Tim. 2:12)
Godly women: Hope set on God praying (supplications) night and day (I Tim. 5:5b; v.6 contrast) Previously married to one man no longer young must be at least 60 (I Tim. 5:9) Has served others with good works (I Tim. 5:10)
Younger widows once enrolled supported by the church/serving church in special capacities may wax wanton against Christ desire to marry (I Tim. 5:11) Younger widows Condemned in sense of rejecting first pledge supported by Lord s church fulfilling needs of the church (I Tim. 5:12) Women with no work to be engaged in can become busy, but not in good works: idle, busy bodies, tattlers/gossips, speaking things they should not say (I Tim. 5:13) Paul is avoiding the starting place for the adversary to revile Christ and His church (I Tim. 5:14-15)
