  1. INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION IEC 62361 Interoperability in the long term Part 102: CIM - 61850 Harmonization Status February 2014

  2. CIM-61850 task force Team NWIP status NWIP principle (IEC 62361-102 NP) was validated by WG19 NWIP initiated by the France NC was internationally approved First CD to be published tentatively before next WG10 meeting A shared area is set-up (under CIM User group banner) http://cimug.ucaiug.org/Projects/CIM-61850/default.aspx Combined experts from WG13, WG14 and WG10 Weekly conference call meeting Any contributors welcome Convenor: Laurent Schmitt Model manager : Herb Falk Meeting organiser: Margaret Goodrich 2 IEC62361-102 CIM-61850 Harmonization 3/12/2025

  3. Aims unify the model where applicable and to precisely define a mapping where it is not. Step 1: Use case analysis Use cases that link control center applications and substation automation Step 2: identify overlap and duplication of CIM and 61850 what is missing in 61850 that is required by CIM what is missing in CIM that is required by 61850 3/12/2025 3 IEC62361-102 CIM-61850 Harmonization

  4. Harmonization = a long history One power system with different standards based on different views Key use cases & applications drive the models 61850 protection engineering 61970 state estimation There have been various papers, reports and suggestions for over 10 years Current approach of the working group Focus on some specific use cases based on industry needs Initial use cases will not address all aspects of potential unification 3/12/2025 4 IEC TC57 WG15 March 2013 Status

  5. Modified Use Case List Mapping exercise made it clear that on-line business functions (like SCADA and network analysis) would share a CIM configuration process that would transfer modeling information from 61850 to some CIM modeling application. New use case list: CIM configuration from 61850 Network topology Schematic diagrams SCADA configuration SIPS models Real-time SCADA data acquisition from 61850 Volt-var optimization SIPS 6 IEC TC57 WG15 March 2013 Status 3/12/2025

  6. CIM configuration from 61850: Actors [Network] Planner Provides requirements + specifications CIM Modeler Updates CIM model for SCADA, network analysis, asset management, other applications Field system engineering Designs and builds substation or other site Sub-system engineering Installs & commissions devices, local communications 7 IEC TC57 WG15 March 2013 Status 3/12/2025

  7. CIM configuration from 61850: Summary Transfer requirements from Planner to Field system engineer (Center to Field) Field system design (equipment, IEDs) Transfer System Configuration Description from Field system engineer to CIM Modeler Designreview Repeat as necessary 8 IEC TC57 WG15 March 2013 Status 3/12/2025

  8. CIM configuration from 61850: Iteration Sequence Priority 1: Mapping transfer from 61850 to CIM Later: Formal rules for specifying requirements 9

  9. Draft data flow reference model 10

  10. Modeling proposals #1 Equipment mapping Substation one line connectivity description has the same or similar business requirement within 61850 based system engineering tools and within CIM based network engineering tools. Nice to use a SSD description before any IEDs have been defined, without details from LN attributes such as switch type Some equipment types do not match (long term) same equipment model (short term) more equipment type codes in 61850 to allow bidirectional 1:1 mapping Update CIM for DER etc 3/12/2025 11 IEC62361-102 CIM-61850 Harmonization

  11. Equipment type codes Comment submitted for 61850-6 New type code for BUS Busbar section A conductor, or group of conductors, with negligible impedance, that serve to connect other conducting equipment within a single substation. Number of terminals: 1 New type codes for switches (all with number of terminals = 2) SLB Switch - Load break switch SDC Switch - Disconnector SES Switch - Earthing switch SHS Switch - High speed earthing switch SFS Switch - Fuse SJP Switch - Jumper New type codes for capacitors & reactors CSE Capacitor bank - series 2 terminals CSH Capacitor bank - shunt 1 terminal RSE Reactor bank - series 2 terminals RSH Reactor bank shunt 1 terminal Type code CON Deprecated - use TCF or SCR as applicable. 12 IEC TC57 WG15 March 2013 Status 3/12/2025

  12. Equipment Mapping to CIM classes: First draft in spreadsheet form 61850-6 SCL substation section elements 61850-7-4 Non-generic LNs (groups A,C,S,X,Y,Z) To do: 61850-7-410 Hydro generation 61850-7-420 Distributed Energy Resources 61850-90-3 Condition Monitoring 61850-90-6 Distribution networks 13 IEC TC57 WG15 March 2013 Status 3/12/2025

  13. Modeling proposals #2 Mapping CIM Measurements to Logical Nodes & Data Objects Use case sub-step: Select 61850 measurements for CIM applications (ideally automatically) Revise CIM Measurement Model (in progress) Classes & attributes for measurement technique, calculation interval etc How to use measurement types (to do) IEC61850 has a large set of data objects = measurement types. May need to clarify descriptions if measurements are to be used in CIM application calculations. CIM standards may define enumerations for different profiles. Measurements for State Estimation (similar to IEC 61970-456 Solved Power System State Interface) Measurements for distribution network management (depends on 61850- 90-6 Models) Measurements for Asset Health 14 IEC TC57 WG15 March 2013 Status 3/12/2025

  14. Looking ahead #3 (to be confirmed!) Graphics for one line diagram Mapping required between 61850-6 Annex C Extension syntax for drawing layout coordinates 61970-453 CIM based graphic exchange 15 IEC TC57 WG15 March 2013 Status 3/12/2025

  15. Looking ahead #4 (to be confirmed!) Communication CIM SCADA package will be addressed for configuration issues related to using IEC61850 measurement sources Communications network modelling (lines, routers etc) not in current scope but recognized as important for the future 16 IEC TC57 WG15 March 2013 Status 3/12/2025

  16. Other use cases identified Asset Management/Asset Health Systems Asset Health TF working on a use case for submission to CIM-61850 TF Using CIM information as input to the 61850 configuration update process Incremental updates Contingency analysis and creation 17
