  1. Nigeria Off-Grid Energy Market Acceleration Program Supported by Shell Foundation, USAID and FCDO November 2020 www.offgridmap.ng

  2. Overview: Nigeria Off-Grid Market Accelerator Program (NOMAP) Independent market accelerator co-created by SF & USAID to tackle off-grid energy market barriers in Nigeria; with funding support from DFID One of four off-grid market accelerators in Africa Implemented two high-impact initiatives in its first year (2018 - 2019): payment collection System for last mile customers & off-grid market data/intelligence Currently focused on three high-impact initiatives: Market Intelligence Off-Grid Payment Productive Use Improve access to market intelligence/data to increase solar home systems (SHS) deployment Development of a Single Point of Integration (SPOI) for PAYGO payment collection for last mile customers Support productive use technologies and demand stimulation for mini-grids 1

  3. Overview: Development of a Payment Collection System Nigeria s low mobile money penetration makes it difficult for PAYGO companies to collect payment from unbanked customers To address this barrier, NOMAP, in its first year, financed the integration of PAYGO billing systems of six SHS companies into SWIFTA s agent platform, a payment service company. 2

  4. Impact of Payment Collection Pilot: 6 Months Payment Collection Pilot We were able to expand into two new states: Anambra and Enugu, which were on our expansion plans for the end of 2019 Increased efficiency in collections -SHS Company Now, we don t have to travel miles to recharge our Solar systems and we get our token faster - SHS Customer Organic demand for SHS units and expansion into new regions The incidence of fraud reduced significantly and it made our reconciliation easier - SHS Company Increased transparency 3

  5. Off-Grid Payment Collection System: 6 Months Impact 4 Women-led companies supported 161 Customers currently served by the agent network < 5 mins Time it now takes for customers to receive recharge tokens 15 Part time jobs created with Installer- agent model 3 Expansion into three new states: Enugu, Anambra and Plateau State 41 New connections via agent network. 16+ possible new connections monthly Less call time spent by middle management following up repayments 446 Orders received via agent network in the first 6 months Increased Transparency in collections to mitigate fraud. 4

  6. Lessons Learned from Off-Grid Payment Pilot Need for a compelling business case to justify agent network expansion Information sharing between SHS companies and agent service providers is key! Opportunity to leverage payment agents as External Sales Force 5

  7. Single Point of Integration: Pathway to Seamless Solar Collections NOMAP is supporting the development of a Single Point of Integration for SHS companies to have seamless access to multiple payment channels serving the unbanked and underbanked SPOI 6

  8. Current Approach: Develop a Single Point of Integration Concluded meetings with stakeholders, documented SPOI development into a white paper Selected technical partner Develop, Test and Launch SPOI FY19 FY20 Q2 FY20 Q4 BETA testing and integration with SHS and Payment partners Monitoring & Impact tracking Meeting with major stakeholders in the payment sector. Connected with NIBBS and SANEF to secure their buy in Meetings with Stakeholders in the SHS sector soliciting interest and feedback. Committed support to the SPOI development Monitoring usage levels of SPOI, Transaction Volumes and Values FY 20 Q1 FY20 Q3 *Timeline could change 7

  9. Key Needs of the Sector 8
