STATE ASSESSMENT REQUIRMENTS End of Course Exams(EOCs) Algebra 1 must pass and 30% of grade or PSAT, SAT, ACT, or CLT concordant scores Geometry must take but not pass, 30% of grade Biology - must take but not pass, 30% of grade US History must take but not pass, 30% of grade FAST Grade 10 ELA (or ACT/SAT/CLT concordant score) Must pass If fail, placed into mandatory Reading class next school year

COURSE REGISTRATION Course Registration Worksheets were distributed in classroom sessions by counselors 9th grade during English classes week of Jan 29-Feb 2nd 10th grade during World Hist classes week of Jan 29-Feb 2nd IB during weeks of Jan 17th-Feb 9th Medical during weeks of Jan 29-Feb 9th These were already due back to front office, if student still has it, please have them turn in to counselor Students/parents will be able to view course requests in FOCUS next month Change SY to 2024-25 Click Class Requests (left-side menu under child s name)

COURSE ACCELERATION Goal= have all students take at least one accelerated course Benefits Students get to challenge themselves Will look good on transcripts/resume Can give them a certification/advantage Example: College credit, industry certification Examples of accelerated courses: IB courses, AICE courses, AP courses, dual enrollment courses, Industry Certification courses (CABAM, Medical)

  11. AP POTENTIAL What is AP Potential? Generated from PSAT scores to identify students who have skill set that will help them be successful in Advanced Placement courses Letters were generated and distributed to students who show AP potential and held AP Potential assembly at school for students beginning of February If you want your child to take an AP course next year or want to check they placed one on their course registration sheet, contact your child s counselor Counselors can update course requests to add advanced coursework District livestream AP Potential recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOYPskk66L0

EARLY COLLEGE Early College Program Program at SPC (Saint Petersburg College) Can complete 2 years of college and earn associate s degree by HS graduation All courses will be on SPC campus Will have college counselor assigned at SPC Must meet qualifications and be chosen from lottery (3.0 unweighted GPA, qualifying PERT/PSAT/ACT/SAT scores, coursework, current 10th grade student) Must complete HOPE, Geometry, World History, and Biology prior to starting ECP What should I do now? Go to spcollege.edu and enroll as a student (select for high school program) to get SPC ID # Bring SPC ID # and email to counselor to fill out PERT form to set up testing (if needed) Attend information session https://www.spcollege.edu/future-students/admissions/high-school- programs/early-college to view recording Complete and turn in application during Priority deadline (Jan 10th) or before final deadline of Feb 10th

CREDIT RECOVERY/GRADE FORGIVENESS Extended Learning Program (Afterschool) Students can recover credits and boost their GPA by retaking courses (must have earned a D or F to retake course-only core classes offered) Days: Mondays-Thursdays 2:00-4:00 Location: PHUHS computer lab 19-207, supervised by certified teachers Referral: See counselor for a referral to get signed up Students who earn F in a core courses MUST credit recover in order to be on track for graduation If you do not recover the credit the student will be retained in their current grade level

ONLINE COURSEWORK Students can take up to 3 classes online each semester (can replace up to 3 periods they would normally be on campus) Students cannot be on campus during these class periods Students must have their own transportation to allow for being off campus to take these courses HOWEVER . If student is unsuccessful in online course/s they can jeopardize their graduation status and post-secondary options Core classes online are difficult; student must be self motivated to be working on the class everyday on their own time Recommend they try an elective online first, to see if it is a good fit Online permission form must be signed by parent and returned before counselor will approve any online class off campus

  17. NAVIANCE Naviance is a customizable planning portal for students and families including self-discovery assessments, goal-setting, college research tools, and career exploration resources. On Naviance, you can take a career interest inventory, complete a resume, search for colleges and explore a variety of post-secondary options. Introductory Naviance video: https://www.screencast.com/t/tbcYt9eUkKg Logging into Naviance Log into Clever and select the Naviance icon. You can also type Naviance into the search bar. Once you are in Naviance, scroll down to see your Important To Dos and Tasks and begin working on those. You can also click on Planner in the top tool bar and select Tasks to see what is required for you to work on.

NAVIANCE TASKS 10th Grade Tasks 1st semester- Career Interest Profiler (add 3 careers to My List) 9th Grade Tasks 1st semester- Game Plan Survey 1st semester- Create, Review, or Edit Course Plan 2nd semester- Complete SuperMatch College Search (add 6 Colleges to My List) 2nd semester- Achieveworks Personality Students will complete the Career Interest Profiler Completion and favorite (heart) at least 3 careers of interest. Students are provided with a reminder of Naviance, its purpose, and how they will use it throughout the course of their high school career. Students learn the importance of being exposed to the college search process, no matter which post-secondary option they have chosen; use SuperMatch tool to find colleges that would be a fit for them; Students add at least 6 colleges to their Colleges I m Thinking About list Students complete Achieveworks Personality assessment

BRIGHT FUTURES VOLUNTEERING/WORK HOURS First-> pick a site to volunteer or work and contact person at that site https://www.pcsb.org/Page/3554 Second-> Once the site approves the student, they must fill out Community Service proposal form and get approved by their counselor before beginning hours Third->start volunteering/working and logging hours on Community Service hours log form Fourth-> once complete, bring hours log and completed reflection to your counselor immediately and retain a copy

HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL Organization Organize binders, notebooks, etc. Use a planner, calendar, remind system Time Management Use your time to your advantage, do NOT procrastinate or cram, schedule a set time everyday to do homework Advocate If you do not understand, ask questions. If you are having trouble, speak up. We are here to help! Start with your teacher.   23. TRACKING ASSIGNMENTS/GRADES What specific resources do I need to know about? Clever- PCS single sign on portal that will provide access to all digital resources appropriate for your child (textbooks, programs, Naviance, etc.) Focus PCS student information system where you can review assignments, grades and attendance. Please ensure that your address, phone numbers and email address are up to date in Focus. THIS IS WHERE GRADES ARE POSTED-teachers must use for grading Canvas PCS Learning Management System where lessons, assignments due, and other instructional resources are posted. THIS IS OPTIONAL-some use for posting lessons/assignments Microsoft 365 including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), OneNote Class Notebook, and Teams. Up to 5 free copies of Microsoft 365 per student can be downloaded on family computers from Microsoft 365 online.
