An information-centric approach for smart grid communications is being explored within the C-DAX Consortium, funded by the European Union. This approach focuses on leveraging information-centric networking (ICN) to enhance the delivery of various data services in the smart grid context, aiming to reduce complexity and improve efficiency. Through ICN, the network becomes aware of the content it delivers rather than just the end-hosts, enabling new interaction models like publish/subscribe and facilitating benefits such as multicast, mobility, and in-network caching. The publish/subscribe basics and the use of brokers further enhance the architecture, enabling decoupling of data production and consumption across a multitude of communicating devices.
