What can you expect from your role? 1. Finance- Deep dive into a few Risk Management concepts/measures that your team looks into 2. Data and Analytics- You would be working with large amounts of data and would have to constantly manipulate it to generate commentaries/reports 3. Operations- Some tasks would be very operational in nature. An example could be that you are required you to fill forms on behalf of your team 4. Coding- Basic to moderate level of coding would be used in your role to automate dashboards and reports
What is the work like? What is the work culture like? Business as Usual Business as Usual- - This is the day-to-day work that the team works on. These included frequent updates in the changes of VaR and generation of reports for the wider team. Working hours extended from noon to ten at night Workday wasn t very hectic- varies from team to team though Correspondence with global teams Flat hierarchy Friendly and positive working environment BITSians in the team as well Project Based Work Project Based Work- - There was a constant need to improve the processes involved in BaU and this required working on standalone projects which is mainly on the automation side for interns. For FTEs, it will also include coordination with the Data Science and Software teams for the improvement of the current methods.
What can you prepare from before? 1. 2. Proficiency in MS Excel and other MS Office tools is the bare minimum 3. A good grip over Python would be a plus point but is not a necessity 4. SQL/ Excel VBA/ Tableau/ Alteryx and similar softwares might be required but can be learnt on the job 5. Needless to say, basic soft skills are the most important, and will be honed on the job as well 6. A very important thing to keep in mind is mail hygiene Basics in financial knowledge- mostly covered through the finance minor
Is a Finance PS in Risk Management the right fit for you? 1. Involves deep level understanding of Finance and Maths related to it; your team will give you plenty of resources for the same as well 2. Big brand name to give your MBA/MS application a boost 3. Very high learning curve initially 4. Exposure to working in global teams and a large corporate 5. Good work-life balance On the flip side, On the flip side, 1. 2. Less ownership in comparison to startups; less opportunities to take initiatives 3. Data analysis or coding in some form would be required Will involve a lot of iterative work, which can get boring as well
