The formation of the Janata Party under the leadership of Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan brought together four major political parties to fight against Indira Gandhi. After sweeping the 6th General Elections in 1977, the Janata Party formed the government, led by Morarji Desai. The government focused on restoring democracy, implementing Gandhian Socialist economic policies, and enacting measures like demonetization. However, infighting led to the downfall of the government before completing its full term.
