Looking to the future Scotland aims to be one of the top five performing countries in the EU for youth unemployment by reducing the youth unemployment rate to match the fifth best country in the EU by 2021 2014 19.0% 2017 8.9% The rate of the fifth best country in the EU was 14.7% The rate of the fifthbest country in theEU was about 5%

Positive and sustained destinations There s more than one path to success ... there is a widespread belief that studying for a degree will lead to a well-paid job and fulfilling professional career and whilst in many cases this is true it isn t always the case .   6. Work Based Learning Work Based Learning .... our findings show that apprenticeships continue to suffer from an image problem compared to Higher Education . Parental preferences: - higher education 51% , UK (56%, Scotland) - apprenticeship 20%, UK (19%, Scotland) Young people s preferences Only 7% of people aged 18-24 considered apprenticeships as the best way forward . It s not about what kids do at 16, 17 and 18, it s what they do at 6, 7 and 8

  7. Positive and sustained destinations School leaver destination figures are published annually. Leaver destinations In session 2018/19, 92.4% of our leavers went on to a positive and sustained post-school destination. This is in line with national statistics and is a 7% increase since 2015.

  18. Dummy Run Process Maximise personalisation and choice Ensure viability Plan around staffing

  19. What Happens Next? Options course descriptor booklet on school website before Christmas. Pupils will participate in the Dummy run process in early January. Parents will be informed when this will happen through text message. Where possible, please discuss options choices with your child before this process. Dummy run results will be collated and used to build options structure Materials placed on school website and option forms issued. Parent and pupil interview with Pastoral teacher or DHT to finalise options in early 2020. New timetable to begin 8th June 2020

  20. Mrs Carlin Employability update

Project Leader : Employability Mrs Amanda Carlin At Johnstone High, we have a dedicated employability team who work together with the aim that ALL pupils achieve a positive destination when they leave school. Pupils who are unsure of the path they wish to follow, or who are thinking of pursuing a non-academic route, can get help and advice from the team. We are keen to work with pupils thinking of leaving early summer S4 or Christmas of S5/6 as we can suggest routes to employment or training. The team is comprised of Mrs Carlin (Project Leader), Careers Advisor (Mrs Young), DYW West (Renfrewshire Council), Ms Wilkie, Mr Munro and Mrs O Malley.

  22. Employability : Past and Future Opportunities Six pupils have completed Renfrewshire Council s flagship programme, My Future Pathway into Construction - taster days at college - work experience - CV/Interview training - CSCS Card testing - Asbestos/H&S Certification A former pupil who went through the programme has secured a Modern Apprenticeship with Engie Construction, based within Renfrewshire. Annual attendance at Skills Development Scotland Careers Events at the SECC (October) In-house Careers Event (January 16th 2020) over 20 local and national employers on hand to give support and advice to our pupils about career paths Roll out of more My Future Pathway Programmes for different employment sectors

  23. Employability: Useful Resources My World of Work for help and advice on career paths and planning for interviews and CV writing. Many employers use this resource for job applications. Apprenticeships.scot Up to date local and national Apprenticeship opportunities.
