WHAT IS MY JOB? Can you guess what I do? Many people wear scrubs (name of the uniform I m wearing) Nurses Lab assistant Respiratory therapists Doctors Therapists (physical, speech and occupational therapists)
PHYSICAL THERAPIST Health professional who uses exercise and hands on care to overcome physical impairments Teach you movement that you can t do anymore because you got hurt Or maybe you were born different and need help to get better We can work with babies, children, adults, and elderly people I work in pediatrics so I work with babies, kids, and teenagers!
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND Complete Bachelor s degree (first 4 years of college) PLUS 3 years of Doctor of Physical Therapy program = At least 7 years of college
WHY DID I BECOME A PHYSICAL THERAPIST? This is my little brother He started physical therapy when he was a baby
SKILLS/WORK ETHIC TO BECOME A PHYSICAL THERAPIST Dedicated student Interest in science I still constantly research new ways of helping my patients Communication skills Talk to your patients, co workers, doctors and other health professionals Empathy Being able to put yourself in your patient s shoes Understand what it s like to be them
CONTRIBUTION TO COMMUNITY Help people achieve physical goals Get better after surgery or injury Make people healthier
Final advice Be a good student Be kind Exercise If someone look different, get to know them. Be a friend!
