Background Background Biomedical Sciences Undergraduate degree at Surrey University. Masters degree in Molecular Medicine and Cancer Research at Brunel University. Analytical Scientist at LGC Group. Joined Imperial College as a Research Technician from September 2014.
My Role My Role My role as a Biomarkers Research Technician involves: - Logging the receipt of existing Biomarker samples including Cholangiocarcinoma patient samples within the Biomarker repository. - Liaising with external sites to arrange shipment of samples to Imperial and logging the receipt of these new samples when they arrive. - Checking that Consent and Case Report Forms (CRFs) are all valid. - Registering all samples onto the master Biomarkers spreadsheet which is then uploaded onto the Imperial Tissue Bank.
Cataloguing Process Cataloguing Process Samples are temporarily removed from freezers and placed on dry ice. Samples from each container are individually counted and recorded in writing. Samples are typically grouped by aliquot type: Serum, Plasma, Bile, Pellet, Urine, Whole Blood and DNA. Written records are then transferred to the master spreadsheet. These samples are then checked against consent forms and CRFs for validity. The same process applies with samples that are shipped in from external sites.
