Managing Network Operations Model: NPRR 1099 Overview
This content provides an overview of NPRR 1099, focusing on managing network operations, resource nodes, and changes in protocols. It includes details on different areas of focus such as DGR modeling, resource retirement, and Point-of-Interconnection changes. The content also presents examples and images illustrating the impact of NPRR 1099 on transmission networks and equipment. Overall, it offers insights into the differences between NPRR 1099 and previously withdrawn protocols, highlighting key changes and areas of importance in managing network operations.

NPRR 1099, Managing Network Operations Model Resource Nodes ERCOT Staff CMWG November 15, 2021
Background NPRR1016, Clarify Requirements for Distribution Generation Resources (DGRs) and Distribution Energy Storage Resources (DESRs) was approved August 11, 2020 NPRR1099 differs from previously withdrawn NPRR1017 Protocol Section 3.10.3.1 (1), moving a Resource Node (RN) for Point- of-Interconnection (POI) changes and Resource Retirements differentiate in its managing NPRR1099 focuses on three areas: DGR Modeling Resource Retirement Point-of-Interconnection (POI) changes 2 PUBLIC

Benefits of NPRR 1099 Allows NPRR1016 to be fully implemented as intended Distribution equipment is not secured Allows Resource retirements to have cleaner modeling when the RN is located on a different kV level All retired equipment can be removed from the model Currently a RN may be de-energized by modeling normally open breakers/switches, therefore prices are already being moved by DAM Heuristic mappings Accurate equipment modeling Reduces the amount of Settlement Points (w/ POI changes) 23 PUBLIC
Benefits of NPRR 1099 to Operations Improve ERCOT s Control Room situational awareness. Without NPRR 1099, miscommunication could occur between equipment Operators and ERCOT for non existing equipment. Reduce data management responsibilities by TSPs and REs. Without NPRR 1099, it would force TSPs and REs to maintain modeling data that does not exist in the field. Without NPRR 1099, it would force TSPs and REs to maintain ICCP telemetry for equipment that does not exist in the field. 24 PUBLIC
