  1. NEPRIS CLASS TALK ZACHRY MIDDLE SCHOOL SANANTONIO 26thFeb 2021

  2. ABOUT ME My training: Master of Science in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine from The University of Western States (UWS), Oregon. Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU), India. Why I changed my field? My mom always says- Whatever happens, happens for the best! Whether you accept it or not, the most valuable lesson behind it is to make you stronger. Not getting a diagnosis, led me to this wonderful field of functional medicine and functional nutrition and that is what I practice.

  3. MISDIAGNOSIS What can be done to help stop misdiagnosis?

  4. WHAT IS MISDIAGNOSIS? INABILITY TO REACH A DIAGNOSIS What are the causes/critical obstacles in getting a diagnosis? Symptoms affecting different body organs Initial symptoms are often intermittent and unspecific until the disease becomes acute Specializations in medical field- It is challenging when symptoms cross many specializations Specialists are generally unaware of interrelationships among different diseases or advances in treatment outside their own specialty area. Integrative care and collaboration might be an answer Everyone is unique and one-size-fits-all approach in practice could be a limiting factor in certain conditions. Solution might lie in personalized medicine which is upcoming Research is extensive these days but generally disease-specific and limited in scope. More information-sharing and crossover among research projects on different diseases might be an answer.

  5. FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE CAN BE THE ANSWER I was drawn to this wonderful field when conventional medicine was not able to diagnose what was going on with me and my family. Checkout their website for more information: Institute for Functional Medicine What is Functional Medicine? Functional medicine determines how and why illness occurs and restores health by addressing the root causes of disease for each individual. Functional Medicine and Functional Nutrition changed my life and so I am an advocate for it.

  6. SOME STATS Do you know what an autoimmune condition is? A patient with autoimmunity can take any where from 3-5 years to get a diagnosis and be to 5-15 practitioners before getting diagnosed and according to National Institute of Health (NIH) the prevalence is rising daily for past 30 years and includes 13% of US population at this time. Being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, such as lupus, MS or Crohn's disease, can be a challenging journey. According to the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association (AARDA), the average time for diagnosis is 4.5 years and during that period the patient typically has seen four-10 practitioners trying to find answers.

  7. THANK YOU Thank you for this opportunity! Tell me how many of you are interested in a career in medicine or any healthcare field? Were you interested prior or as a result of this research project of yours? If you have more questions you can ask Ms. Victoria to reach me.
