  2. Latest Results TSB published their annual 2016 results on the 25thMay The headline results showed: There were an estimated 4.6 million overnight trips in Northern Ireland. Expenditure associated with these trips was an estimated 851m. An estimated 2.6m of these trips were taken by external visitors with an associated estimated expenditure of 614m. An estimated 2 million hotel room nights were sold in Northern Ireland hotels 93 cruise ships docked in Northern Ireland ports Publication of Local Government District Tourism Statistics has been brought forward and is now due to be published on 6th July 2017.

  3. National Statistics During 2016/2017 a number of tourism statistics publications underwent rigorous assessment by the Office for National Statistics. In May 2017 after assessment by the Office for National Statistics Tourism Statistics were granted National Statistics accreditation. Publications put forward for accreditation were as follows Northern Ireland Annual Tourism Statistics Northern Ireland Quarterly Tourism Statistics External Overnight Trips to Northern Ireland Domestic Tourism (Northern Ireland Residents) Hotel Occupancy Survey Local Government District Tourism Statistics GHBBGA occupancy survey, Self Catering occupancy survey and the Northern Ireland Visitor Attraction Survey were not put forward for consideration.

  4. Upcoming Review of CHS TSB has initiated a review of the CHS data used for domestic tourism. This will include analysing the weighting methodology used, the possibility of including children (aged under 16) in overnight trip outputs, and improving outlier detection. Day Trips Releasing a publication on day trips in 2017 is a priority. Day trip information also comes from the CHS, and the methodology for producing day trip data is being analysed. Urban/Rural After interest from some users TSB is planning on releasing Northern Ireland tourism statistics split by Urban/Rural classification. This will include trips, nights, spend, occupancy rates and visits to visitor attractions.
