EUDAT B2DROP Service description Dissemination level: Public eosc-hub.eu @EOSC_eu EOSC-hub receives funding from the European Union s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 777536.
Content * Motivation and driving consideration about the service * Service architecture and interfaces: overview - How the user can access the service E.g.: REST, GUI, CLIs, etc. - Service options and attributes * Acceptable Usage Policy (AUP) * Access policy and business model * Use cases * Documentation/tutorial/information 4/4/2025 2
Motivation * This service provides an online storage for researchers * Researchers can collaborate with others and work together on the data. * The data can be shared with external collaborators (no user of B2DROP) as well as collaborates who uses B2DROP too. * Shares can be done to users and as link. * The data can be shared with other platforms, which support the open cloud mesh. 4/4/2025 3
Motivation * Researches can synchronise their data across several computers/mobile devices. * Researchers can organise their work with (shared) calenders and address books. * Concluded documents can be published directly through B2SHARE. 4/4/2025 4
Service architecture and interface * B2DROP uses a web-server for user interaction and a database server to store data. Files are stored within the file- system of the web-server. * The underling open-source software is build up modular which allows to extend the system easily. * Additional features are enabled by different apps. * B2DROP creates deposits, including file transfer, at B2SHARE by the B2Share-bridge app. * B2DROP depends on B2ACCESS because B2ACCESS does the user authentication for B2DROP. 4/4/2025 5
Service access * Users access the service by web browsers (GUI). - The authentication of the users is done by B2ACCESS. - Shares are created within the GUI. * Synchronisation of data is done by WebDAV protocol. - Clients, e.g. Nextcloud or ownCloud, and WebDAV mounts could be used for access. - The authentication depends on the used client and is done by B2ACCESS or an app password, created in the web frontend. 4/4/2025 6
Service access * Synchronisation of calendars and address books is done by the Cal- and CardDAV protocols. - Clients are applications which supports this protocols native, like email applications, or applications which synchronise the data between B2DROP and other applications, like DAVdroid or CalDav Synchronizer. - The authentication depends on the used client and is done by B2ACCESS or an app password, created in the web frontend. 4/4/2025 7
Service options and attributes * Service options for the Data & Storage service: - EUDAT B2DROP * Service attributes: - Storage capacity (20 GB), - Access Type (Reserved), - Start of Service (01.09.2011), 4/4/2025 8
Acceptable Usage Policy * B2DROP Terms of Use: https://b2drop.eudat.eu/themes/b2drop/terms-of- use.html * B2DROP Data Privacy Statement: https://b2drop.eudat.eu/themes/b2drop/data-privacy- statement.html 4/4/2025 9
Access policies and Funding models * Access policies: - Policy-based - Other needs, like an own instance or dedicated storage, has to be discussed - Maket-driven (Other needs, like an own instance or additional storage) 4/4/2025 10
Featured use cases * Shared calendar within a research group/community - The calendar extension of B2DROP is used to satisfy the needs of the research group. - The group has a shared calendar with all members and appointments get automatically synchronised to all involved users. - Appointment exchange with all users by email is obsolete. - One member created a calendar within his account and shares it with his colleagues. - The calendar is synchronised with members local calendars on Android, Linux, Mac and Windows. 4/4/2025 11
