  3. The answers 1. phonetics is defined as the scientific study of speech sounds, how they are made, how they are perceived and the physics involved 2. phonology is defined as the scientific study of how the speech sound are organized into systems for each individual language

  4. 3.The tongue is the most important of the organs of speech because it has the greatest variety of movement 4.The alveolar ridge is the part of the gums immediately behind the upper front teeth.

  5. 5.Articulatory phonetics: deals with the production of sounds by the speech organs. 6. Acoustic phonetics: deals with the physical properties of sounds by waves 7. Auditory phonetics: the hearing & perception of sounds as mediated by ear, auditory nerve & brain

  6. 8. The hard palate is the highest part of the palate between the alveolar ridge and the beginning of the soft palate 9.Friction consonants: They are nine consonants phonemes whose main sounds all have friction as their most important features.
