  3. 1. Praise the Lord Begins & ends with exhortation Hallelujah Directs it to himself O my soul Makes a serious decision & commitment (v 2) There are no conditions A basic disposition & pattern of his life How can it be legit / authentic? Based on who God is and what he does

  4. 2. He is Faithful Those who hope in him the blessed This God is creator of heaven & earth A series of names/titles point to 1 truth: The God of Jacob YHWH our God The maker of Heaven, earth and sea Is the one who remains faithful forever.

  5. 3. He is involved Seven participles: Upholding feeding freeing giving sight lifting up loving watching over The oppressed, hungry, prisoners, The righteous Seek after God, try to be faithful He sustains [weak] He frustrates wicked

  6. 3. He is involved Middle 5 participles begin with YHWH Almighty creator intimately involved What concerns are on your mind? Loving, Almighty being in control As Jesus said to Pontius Pilate (Jn 19:10-11) God orchestrated things to be as they are

  7. 4. God is Eternal His plans will ultimately prevail People in power can fall from grace and die Everything they ve promised disappears God designed the world to work this way Actions lead to consequences We are all involved God oversees the whole

  8. Living It Difficult, tragic things can happen Our praise is not based on circumstances About who God is, what he s done Thanksgiving acknowledges specific things Lament acknowledges problems, difficulties Praise is what sustains us.
