  2. Housing Assessment & Resource Agency (HARA) There are designated HARAs for every county in the state of Michigan. TrueNorth is the HARA for Lake, Mason, Newaygo and Oceana counties. Homelessness Defined State & Federal Definition: Individual or family who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, meaning: (i) Has a primary nighttime residence that is a public or private place not meant for human habitation; or (ii) Is living in a publicly or privately operated shelter designated to provide temporary living arrangements

Housing First Housing First is a homeless assistance approach that prioritizes providing permanent housing to people experiencing homelessness The National Alliance to End Homelessness Evidenced based practice Not Housing Ready Households can best be served from safety & security of their own home Prioritizes homeless funding to those most in need

Coordinated Entry Ensuring that homeless individuals and families have access to Housing Services Step 1 Initial request for housing services Step 2 Diversion attempt Step 3 Housing assessment Step 4 Housing referral Step 5 Housing search and placement Step 6 Housing supports promoting housing security

  7. Prevention/ At Risk Doubled up couch surfing is not considered homeless Facing Eviction is not considered homeless Both of these categories qualify a household for Prevention funding as they are at risk of becoming homeless.
