Supporting 30k SSB for 5G Networks
Explore the debate on adding 30k SSB for n34, n38, n39, and n50 in 5G networks, addressing concerns about cell-search time and revisiting agreements. Delve into company views lacking consensus and consider a possible way forward for the transition from 15k to 30k SSB.

3GPP TSG-RAN WG4 Meeting #94-e-bis Electronic meeting, 20 30 April 2020 R4-200XXXX WF on supporting 30k SSB SCS for n34, n38, n39 and n50 Ericsson
Background Adding 30k SSB for n34, n39 and n50 does not require support of multiple numerology for SSB and RX data while keeping the 15k SSB option for larger cells but imposes a penalty on cell-search time and a proposal contrary to earlier agreements Adding 30k SSB for n38 allows compatibility with the overlapping n41 (supports both 15k and 30k) using the same SSB pattern for 30k does not require support of multiple numerology for SSB and RX data while keeping the 15k SSB option for larger cells but imposes a penalty on cell-search time and a proposal contrary to earlier agreements
Company views: no consensus Several companies support adding 30k for n34, n38 ,n39 and n50 but concerns raised with cell-search time and revisiting earlier agreements on SSB SCS for n38 concern with adding 30k since 15k is available for roaming with n41 for n39 the situation is unclear in Japan
(one possible) Way forward Given the lack of consensus Consider a change from 15k to 30k SSB for n34 and n39 and n50 Consider addition of 30k SSB for n38 to allow use of the overlapping n41 (supporting both 15k and 30k SSB) ecosystem without restrictions with due account of NBC issues
