  6. Background & Context CEDS and SLDS Overview Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems (SLDS) Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) Recent SLDS Grants (FY 2023) 4-year period (Sept 2023 Sept 2027) Priority areas: Infrastructure, College/Career, School Finance, State Policy 23 of 28 grantees received Scalable Data Use (ScDU) funding Education data management initiative for standardization of data Grant program that supports development of longitudinal data systems

  7. Background & Context Scalable Data Use Projects Purpose: Build CEDS-based data management tools Goals: Support standards bodies Expand CEDS toolset Strengthen SLDS work Facilitate state collaboration CEDS SLDS

  8. Background & Context Collaboration Approach Community-led solutions Empirical needs assessment Creating conditions for success Leveraging diverse SLDS expertise

  9. Projects Overview Current ScDU Projects 1. CEDS JSON/JSON-LD Framework 2. Complete Generate 3. Standards for Reports and Dashboards 1. 3. Data Reporting & Use Data Provider Aggregator 2.

  10. Project Overview CEDS JSON/JSON-LD Framework 1. Purpose Purpose Create a CEDS JSON-LD Framework, required code, and processes to move early learning to K12 and workforce data into and out of all CEDS resources. High High- -level Tasks level Tasks Provide the CEDS community with a process for creating standard CEDS JSON-LD. Provide a repository with clear documentation, documentation processes, and recommended JSON-LD schemas for specific, broadly applicable use cases within the community. Use recommended JSON-LD schemas to develop a process for loading data into the CEDS Integrated Data Store (IDS) and CEDS Data Warehouse (DW). Project Dependencies Project Dependencies CEDS Ontology

  11. Project Overview CEDS JSON/JSON-LD Framework 1. Approach Determine the schema structure. Determine the technology for JSON-LD to SQL. Create a model schema as a group. Assign schema development to participants. Update CEDS Ontology. Create a model for JSON-LD to SQL as a group. Assign JSON-LD to SQL development to participants. Create schema development guide. 12. Project Overview Complete Generate 2. Purpose Purpose Complete development, pilot, and submission of all EDFacts file specifications from Generate by at least one state per file. Maintain all code, test cases, and documentation for Generate in a public GitHub. High High- -level Tasks level Tasks Establish assignments for each component of the remaining EDFacts files. Establish code management/test cases. Create and maintain documentation and update CEDS EDFacts Connections as needed. Code development/ UI development. Upload EDFacts files during EDPass window. Project Dependencies Project Dependencies Simultaneous submission of EDFacts files using shared resources. SEAs need quality data collection for Generate at the unit-record level. CEDS Open-Source Community and new versions of CEDS DW.

  13. Project Overview Complete Generate 2. Approach SEAs select EDFacts files to pilot. Gather and share ETL and CEDS documentation. Establish timelines for high-level piloting activities. Create a process for sharing code and collectively finding solutions. Map Source Data Verify Migration Code Submit Code/Test to OSC Collab Review Code Verify User Interface Run Final Data Migration Upload Files to EDPass Gather Docs Run Correct Bugs Verify Toggle Migrations

  14. Project Overview Standards for Reports & Dashboards 3. Purpose Purpose Architecture: Architecture: Develop standards for architecture for developing data representations, reports, and dashboards. As a subset, develop standards for a semantic layer for the CEDS Data Warehouse. Documentation: Documentation: Develop standards for documentation and develop template(s) for standard documentation. Testing Testing: Develop standards that apply to validation testing and UAT. High High- -level Tasks level Tasks Architecture: Architecture: Develop standards for architecture for developing data representations, reports, and dashboards. As a subset, develop standards for a semantic layer for the CEDS Data Warehouse. Documentation: Documentation: Develop standards for documentation and develop template(s) for standard documentation. Testing Testing: Develop standards that apply to validation testing and UAT.

  15. Project Overview Standards for Reports & Dashboards 3. Approach Three subgroups were formed to focus on architecture, documentation, and user acceptance testing (UAT). Each group gathered and reviewed documentation. Groups began developing an initial draft of best practices based on reviewed documentation and group discussions. Groups met with subject matter experts for further discussion as needed. Groups are wrapping up the initial drafts and reviewing them.

  16. Whats Ahead? Release of artifacts in flight: timely release of current tools, tested and validated by the community with iterative feedback. New and upcoming projects: Ed-Fi to CEDS API / Converter, topic-based data representations, master data management plan, and others tbd. Community Expansion: Engage additional collaborators for broader participation.
