John 16:115: Context Jesus s Farewell Discourse (John 13:31 16:33) John chh. 13 17 explain the meaning of events that take place in chh. 18 20 John 13: the Passover meal John 13:4b-5: Jesus got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water

The Farewell Discourse: John 1316 Jn 13:31: Now the Son of Man is glorified... Jn 14 (Day 3 last week): v. 1: Do not let your hearts be troubled v. 6: I am the way and the truth and the life v. 15: I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever the Spirit of truth. John 16:14a 1 All this I have told you so that you will not fall away. 2 They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. 3 They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me. 4 I have told you this, so that when their time comes you will remember that I warned you about them.
John 16:4b7a I did not tell you this from the beginning because I was with you, 5 but now I am going to him who sent me. None of you asks me, Where are you going? 6 Rather, you are filled with grief because I have said these things. 7 But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away.
John 16:7b11 Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 about sin, because people do not believe in me; 10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
John 16:7b Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. Jn 7:39: By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. Jn 14:26: But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
