Status for the FOOD 2030 Project Collaboration Network by 30 June 2014 111 EU Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, and LIFE projects have been mapped, and 86 of these projects have joined More than 40 projects joined the FOOD 2030 Networks Conference on Transformative Food System Innovation in Brussels from 5thto 7thof March 2024!

Vertical themes established Policy and governance for food system transformation Innovation, data, digital tools, and sustainability assessment Business development, investment and financing Education and citizen science Public engagement, multi-stakeholder collaboration and empowerment Communication, dissemination and mass mobilization

Education and citizen science Motivate and engage children and youth to take part in FS education activities by developing Testing and deploying an interactive FOOD 2030 Science Education Toolkit Supporting food science education activities in Policy & Living Labs Establishing a network to collaborate on transforming higher education teaching Providing support for developing competences and policies for food science education

Analysis of existing curricula vis--vis existing competence frameworks We identified programmes in HEIs 17 programmes (2 BSc and 15 MSc) 11 modules (e.g., extra-curricular, summer schools, professional education) Thematic analysis of learning objectives (n = 325) vis- -vis existing competences and competency frameworks for system transformation Notably Redman & Wiek (2021) s core competences and complementary skills Systems-thinking, Futures-thinking, Values thinking, Strategies-thinking, Inter-personal competence, Implementation competence, integration competence, and intra-personal competence Disciplinary Expertise, and General and Professional Abilities 6

  7. Main findings Core competences Systems thinking and strategic thinking are widely covered Integration competences; stakeholder engagement; future thinking competencies; intrapersonal skills often absent or implicit outcomes widely covered absent or implicit in learning 7

Main findings Complementary skills Disciplinary expertise: overrepresentation overrepresentation of food technology and business, management and innovation underrepresentation underrepresentation of social sciences and humanities General and Professional Abilities critical thinking, creativity, lifelong learning, interpersonal and self-awareness skills , advanced communication that fosters empathy and responsive project management often are not addressed or implicit not addressed or implicit in learning outcomes 8
