What is Lamar?? First generation central Unix server (post CDC mainframe era) IBM Server running AIX Lamar first appeared circa 1990 Email, web, misc. applications 4/13/2025 Lamar transition 3
Why sunset Lamar? Hardware is way, way beyond end-of-life Unsupported OS Security holes we simply cannot patch Preventing InCommon Level of Assurance (LoA) 2 designation Needed for grants.gov functionality Too many other demands for central support and development efforts 4/13/2025 Lamar transition 4
What will replace it? Email -> Office 365 (O365) 50 GB quotas (!!) ename@lamar.colostate.edu will be automatically redirected to O365, at least for some reasonable time From address will change to First.Last@Colostate.edu Exception: Lamar e-mail will be migrated to local Exchange mailboxes for users who are already using Exchange File storage -> MS OneDrive for Business: 1 TB per user Websites -> Migrate to Cloud, Departmental or Central Resources 4/13/2025 Lamar transition 5

Email Scenario 1: Both Lamar and Central Exchange Mailboxes Exist Email that exists on Lamar will be migrated to a folder on Central Exchange called _FromLamar Lamar address book will not be migrated Email sent to ename@lamar.colostate.edu or ename@colostate.edu will be delivered to Central Exchange mailbox Little/no change for most Exchange users 4/13/2025 Lamar transition 9
Email Scenario 2: Lamar email user ACNS will migrate email to Office 365 ACNSmail address book will not be migrated Will publish instructions for users to manually export and import contacts If forwarding is in place, a one-time forward will be created in Office 365 See http://help.mail.colostate.edu for information on creating and modifying forwarding rules 4/13/2025 Lamar transition 10
