Graduation Requirements Career Portfolio The Career Portfolio is a cumulative project over the course of high school that provides students with a variety of experiences & activities in all aspects of post- secondary life. Smart Futures activities Experiences College Visit Business Visit Job Shadow **BCTC students fulfill some of these at BCTC, in their specific shop and their final project will culminate there**
Senior Presentations/Senior Project The culmination of the Career Portfolio is the Senior Presentation or Senior Project Senior Presentations non-BCTC students Presentations to BASD staff about all they ve learned throughout the activities/experiences of the portfolio Meant to be reflective and driven towards reaching their post-secondary goals Senior Project BCTC students Fulfilled at BCTC and presided by the shop teacher in a student s specific program Geared towards their final grade in the program and credentials earned at BCTC
Career Portfolio state requirements The portfolio is driven by state-mandates as it pertains to CEW Standards (Career Education Works). It is meant to provide ways for us to give our students a variety of meaningful experiences and access any and every possible option they have interest in pursuing. Grades are monitored in Homeroom and entered as Pass/Fail. If a student fails homeroom for the year, it does not mean they do not advance to the next grade, it merely indicates they are missing requirements that need to be complete prior to graduation.
Standardized Testing Practice Tests Pre-ACT given to all 10thgrade students in January 2021 PSAT given to all 11thgrade students in January 2021 Keystones Temporarily postponed due to Covid-19, rescheduled date May 2021 SAT/ACT Testing Generally recommended that students wait until Spring of their junior year to take these college-readiness exams; however, students may do so whenever they wish
Final Thoughts for High School Success: Communication is everything in high school. If students have questions about anything, they should start by contacting their Teachers, School Counselor or Grade-Level Principal for support. Appointments can be made but email is always encouraged as quicker responses are more optimal, especially in this last year.
