Vasco Núñez de Balboa: Spanish Explorer and Conquistador
Vasco Núñez de Balboa, a Spanish explorer, governor, and conquistador, was known for crossing the Isthmus of Panama to the Pacific Ocean in 1513. He led the first European expedition to reach the Pacific from the New World, marrying Careta, the daughter of a village, and discovering land in South America. Despite his achievements, he faced obstacles such as his ships sinking and encountering Indian villages. Ultimately, Balboa was beheaded in 1519 but left a significant mark on exploration history.
