  4. What is Dual Credit? Waltrip High School partnership with Houston Community College Earn college credit as courses are completed per semester Start college GPA Courses taken at Waltrip High School during regular school day schedule Assists in transition from high school to college Tuition waived for In-District Students. Out-of-District fee is $50.00 a class. Credits can transfer in Texas and out of state (determined by college/university) Great way to complete some of the Core Curriculum before graduation (42 hours)

Advanced Placement vs Dual Credit Dual Credit Advanced Placement Must apply and qualify to take courses Rigorous curriculum Credit awarded as you earn each semester Transferable credit to the majority of colleges/universities (determined by college/university) Great way to get started on college credit before graduation, and be prepared for rigorous curriculum in college Tuition waived Must maintain a C average or better Open enrollment Rigorous curriculum Credit awarded based on performance on AP exam in May Universities across US write curriculum, passing AP exam ensures you learned what was expected Great way to get started on college credit before graduation, and be prepared for rigorous curriculum in college

Curriculum in liberal arts, humanities, sciences and political, social, and cultural history that all undergraduate students of an institution of higher education are required to complete before receiving an academic undergraduate degree. Most are taken the first two years of college. Concerns about transferring dual credit What happens if a dual credit course I take isn t a specific course required for my degree? The credit will transfer as an elective course.

  9. How much time should students expect to study for a dual credit course? Students should expect to study about 2 hours for each hour of college credit earned per week 3 hour course = 6 hours per week Remember these grades are going to be on the COLLEGE transcript. Good study habits are important and are essential. The dual credit program is a commitment, and has great rewards for the hard work.

The Dual Credit Process In Short Step 1: Qualify through EOC English II test scores with a 4000 or higher Step 2: Complete paperwork and return to Ms. Grimm in room 1115, by March 10 Step 3: Register for Fall classes with Ms. Grimm on designated day via Apply Texas Common Application Registration: FALL classes happens in Spring 2020
