  7. MISSING MIDDLE An Independent Alternative Education Centre (IAEC), is an educational institution that operates independently and is not registered as a traditional independent school but is quality controlled and registered with SCI-AEC as an IAEC that offers alternative approaches to education and enrols learners in one more or grades from Grade R (Reception) to Grade 9 (GEC). The nature of whether parents opt for prestigious large scale expensive registered independent schools or smaller informal, quality assured unregistered cottage schools that have greater flexibility in their approach to education should be of secondary importance, with the primary focus being on the school's ability to deliver high-quality education. Micro cottage centres are a beacon of hope, a solution to bridge the gap between traditional schooling and the demands of parents. They are not competition to large public / private schools
