OFFICIAL Front loaded moderation As part of our Passport to Thrive strategic plan, we want to build an enhanced quality assurance model that extends trust, provides better feedback, and builds teacher capability.
OFFICIAL Front loaded moderation improves efficiency by providing teachers with timely support and actionable feedback earlier in the teaching period empowers teachers to assess a wider range of evidence of learning to more formally recognise the range of capabilities that students develop provides opportunity to clarify the Natural Evidence of Learning in samples of student work that is less tangible and less formal than things like essays and test results builds teacher confidence and capability while ensuring that the existing high level of integrity of assessment is maintained
OFFICIAL Front loaded moderation How it helps What it is Front loaded moderation provides teachers with the opportunity to provide, receive, and action timely feedback to support confidence in the integrity of their decision, and to share their learnings to build capability within their schools. Front loaded moderation takes place at a mid-semester face-to-face event where teachers each share samples of student work which aligns with their school s interpretation and application of performance standards.
OFFICIAL Front loaded moderation What happens Teachers in each school work together to ensure the consistent interpretation and application of the performance standards. Schools nominate a teacher who will represent their school s interpretation of the performance standards. Teacher attends event to present and review student work in collaboration with other teachers to ensure consistency. Teachers provide and receive specific and actionable feedback. SACE trained and experienced supervisors support decision-making. Teachers use the feedback to adjust their teaching and assessment practices.
